Chris Daniels takes us through the LIVE On 5 venues at the Adelaide Oval that he and venue/programme curator, Emma Knights are so rightly proud of.

Chris Daniels takes us through the LIVE On 5 venues that he and venue/programme curator, Emma Knights are so rightly proud of.

The LIVE on 5 Main Stage is a world first performance stage built inside the seating bowl on Level 5 in the Southern stand; our audience can sit in the famous clamshell and watch their artists perform to a backdrop of the Adelaide Oval with the Moreton Bay fig trees, the old scoreboard, the Cathedral, and the North Adelaide Skyline framing our spectacular February sunsets. The Main Stage has ticketed shows running every night. Artists playing on this stage include Beccy Cole, Peter Coombe, and Southern Empire.

The Willam Magarey Room

The William Magarey Room is directly underneath LIVE on 5, at Level 3 in the Southern Stand. With cabaret seating for up to 600, the William Magarey room is one of Adelaide’s premium function and event spaces, sporting two-storey high windows on the Southern side overlooking the River and our city skyline. The room even has 4 bars! Our shows in the Magarey room include Hugh Sheridan in the California Crooner’s Club, Keith Conlon’s Completely Unauthorised history of Adelaide in under an Hour, and a performance of the six-time Tony nominated play The Motherf**ker With The Hat.

The Cathedral Room

The Cathedral Room is in the Eastern stand of the Adelaide Oval, and overlooks the beautiful St Peter’s Cathedral and the Crewel Gardens. This room is set in cabaret seating for 120 to 160 people depending on the show, and yes there is a bar in the room! Our performances in the Cathedral room include the Bailey Dolls, Triage! return season, David Gauci’s It Was Worth the Weight, and Emma Knights’ 35mm – A Musical Exhibition.

Just outside from the Cathedral room is the John Halbert Room, which will host our Murder Mystery dinners presented by Red Fez! There’s a lot of excitement about this one; we are putting on a 210 minute four-course dinner and interactive show called A Murder Most Foul: Murder at the Medal Count, with Adelaide Oval’s famous catering going full steam.

Back in the Southern Stand on Level 4, we find the Gil Langley Room, a great intimate space for 100 people in cabaret seating (yep there’s a bar in here too!), where you can see performances such as Great Detectives of Old Time Radio and the 2nd National Maestro Impro Games.

Finally, we are even transforming the Adelaide Oval Cafe – Koffee Ink – into a Fringe venue for 55 people (so get your tickets for these ones early!). Koffee Ink is right next to the main gate to LIVE on 5 on the Telstra Plaza outside the Southern Gate – you can’t miss it. It also happens to be one of the best places to grab a bite when you’re in the area! Shows on at Koffee Ink include My Dick and Other Reasons I’ll Never Get the Role Of My Dreams, Laconic: a short film festival, boKa, Zeppelin was a Cover Band, and Oompah!

All of these spaces are general admission only, so make sure you get in early to snag a good seat. Some of our artists are paying across multiple spaces throughout the two weeks, so please double check your ticket!

Sound confusing? No worries! Just head up to the LIVE on 5 terrace (which will be impossible to miss), and from there you can follow the paths out to each room. We recommend coming up to LIVE on 5 nice and early to grab a drink and soak up the view before (and after!) your show.

LIVE on 5 opens at 5pm every weekday, and 11am every weekend, with entertainment beginning at 5.30pm and 11.30am respectively; and each night we run until the party stops!
