South Australian Liberal Leader Ashton Hurn has announced an election commitment to make major improvements to road safety in Adelaide’s North-East. If the Liberals secure government, $1.4 million has been pledged to revitalise the intersection at Montacute Road and Forest Avenue in Newton, a section of traffic that has become infamous.

A proposed $400,000 would go to the resurfacing of Montacute Road and an additional $1 million would be set to overhaul the intersection.

Ashton Hurn MP said, “This is more than fixing an intersection. It is about protecting lives and strengthening the community.”

“A new Liberal Government will give South Australians a clear choice for the residents of Morialta – safer roads under the Liberals, or more inaction from Labor,” Hurn said.

Scott Kennedy, candidate for Morialta, said, “I have been listening to my community, and these upgrades are sorely needed to avoid further accidents at this notorious black spot.”

“This intersection has been a danger for far too long and the residents of Morialta deserve to feel safe on their roads. A Liberal team will deliver real change, not just empty promises.”

While the promise of this investment marks a potentially positive shift towards increased road safety, these commitments hinge on the outcome of the forthcoming election.

According to the Liberals, the implementation of these changes seeks to offer not just a safer driving experience but also aims to reinforce communal bonds through enhanced safety.

Polling day for the South Australian election is set for 21 March 2026, with early voting open from 14 March 2026.
