BAR BAR

The Jennie crew brought Bar Bar, a tiny cocktail bar serving a bold celebration of tequila, mezcal, and stripped-back charm, to Pirie Street in May.

Seating just 15 people, it’s a well positioned bar that now provides a waiting room of sorts for people heading out to dinner reservations at the many popular restaurants on the street and nearby events and comedy shows.

BOTTLE SHOCK

The highly anticipated Bottle Shock launched in May, a gamified wine bar aimed at ‘shocking’ people out of their traditional views on wine, and inviting everyone to play with their palate.

Set in a reimagined 120-year-old cold store in Gumeracha, the bar is the brainchild of Unico Zelo’s Brendan Carter alongside Henry Doyle and Simon Dacey.

The game-style bar offers a blind tasting experience to teach people about wine without the fancy pants hard stuff. Instead of being told what you’re tasting, you’re handed a set of cards and five mystery wines. Each flight has a different theme – price, place, style, or structure.

Where: 24 Victoria St, Gumeracha 5233

CANOPY BAR

Located in the former Stem Restaurant & Cellar space on Hindley Street (which closed in March 2025), Canopy Bar is taking over the space, and it might just change the way we think about enjoying wine.

This isn’t your stuffy, overpriced wine bar where you’re afraid to ask for a glass of something you’ve never heard of, you can get top-tier wines by the glass for $15 to $22 a pour. For food, expect kimchi toasties, tinned seafood (in the best way possible), grilled chorizo gildas, and a rotating selection of pickles and caviar that are perfect to munch on while you sip your way through their drink list.

COSMO’S PIZZA

“You can’t put cucumbers on a pizza,” is how the classic Seinfeld quote goes. But you can absolutely put an all-out New York pizza bar paying tribute to the nine-season TV classic beneath one of Adelaide’s favourite music venues.

Pizza, quite obviously, is the hero, and Cosmo’s is quite confidently serving up just one size: the 18-inch pie. Made with house dough and topped with the finest local ingredients, you’ll find all the American-style classics.

The menu is peppered with Seinfeld-inspired nods, including a marble rye, made especially for the restaurant by a bakery in the hills. Sides like parmesan, hot chilli oil wings and cheesy fries round out the offering.

Opened May 2025
Where: 149 Hindley St, Adelaide (beneath Hindley Street Music Hall)

RIA

For some, it’s “the taste of home.” For others, “the taste of adventure.” However you describe it, Ria Ayam Penyet or ‘Ria’ has been serving sumptuous, authentic Indo eats across Asia and Australia for decades and finally joined Adelaide in April.

The name itself, Ayam Penyet, translates to “smashed chicken” – a signature dish of perfectly crispy fried chicken with tofu and sambal. You’ll also find things like choose-you-own curry platter and, of course, no Indo menu would be complete without the classic and delicious ‘Nasi Goreng.’ Ria’s is an elevated take, served with fried rice, velvety, fall-apart beef ribs and eggs served sunny side up.

THAT’S ENRICO

After twelve years running the popular Al Taglio pizzeria in Surry Hills, Enrico Sgarbossa found himself craving something deeper. And so, That’s Enrico was born. It’s an intimate 20-seat pizzeria in Lobethal that spotlights the organic produce of the region alongside owner Enrico Sgalongstanding ethos of sustainability and quality.

The menu riffs on tradition with inventive charm. A lasagna pizza pairs a tomato base with fior di latte, house-made bolognese, béchamel and parmigiano. Calzones are filled with locally made ricotta and sauteed spinach, and Japanese mayo finds its match with double smoked ham and mixed mushroom cream. There’s even a raviolo pizza with spinach, ricotta, butter and sage as well as all the classics like Margherita and Marinara, but with an elevated touch.
