Your guide to all the new and exciting bars, cafes & restaurants that opened their doors this Summer.

While many of us have lamented the challenges of living and working through a pandemic, there’s one industry that’s pushed through, and is taking those challenges head on.

South Australia’s hospitality community has adapted, pivoted, and evolved constantly to meet changing restrictions, health and safety needs, and public demand – and we’re all bloody thankful.

Then there’s a whole new breed of everyday heroes – those opening brand new cafes, bars and restaurants during these unpredictable times. These brave business owners, need our support to help their dreams come to fruition, and let’s be honest, we’re also looking for places to go, to make the most of our freedom, while we’ve got it.

Luna

Luna is a brand new CBD coffee spot that is planning to become a wine bar by night in the not too distant future. During the day you can get great coffee, freshly baked pastries and breakfast classics. By night, once their liquor license is approved, they will have a large wine list and a selection of small plates. Read more here.

Zorba’s Taverna

Zorba’s Taverna, West Lake’s new Greek spot, opened Feb 5th with a lakefront view and seafood-heavy cuisine. The spot champions “traditional Greek flavours with a contemporary twist,” including lamb shoulders, whole fish, and great value seafood platters.

Rue de Siam

Say “bonjour” and “sawasdee ka” to Rue de Siam, Adelaide’s new Thai and French restaurant. The menu focuses on Thai entrees and small plates with French flavours, and there are also strictly French dishes, such as ratatouille. Guests can also sip an array of cocktails in sleek 1950’s-style booths or colourful outdoor seating. Read more here.

Unico Go

This new bar is an intimate five-seat wine bar (and live streaming studio) created by Unico founders Brendan and Laura Carter, opened at the rear of BRKLYN cocktail bar in Adelaide’s CBD, in what was formerly a recording booth. The bar will showcase a rotating selection of five unique Australian and international wines curated and served by Team Unico in collaboration with guest sommeliers. CNB

With Korean fried chicken having a moment in the Adelaide scene, the Parade introduced a new joint and bar in January. Chicken and Burgers, or CNB, comes from the Plus 82 Pocha crew, Steven Lee, Hyunwoo Kang, Kelsey O’Reily, Woojong Hwang. The new project plans to be an elevated KFC, with the menu giving a lot of attention to Chicken Burgers.

Cocina Comida

The new vegan Mexican eatery on Pirie Street is changing the game when it comes to culturally inspired vegan food. Cocina Comida is the brainchild of chef-owner Reuben Williamson. An Adelaide native, Reuben is back home after living in Airlie Beach, London, Mexico, and Guatemala. Whether you’re vegan or not, the new eatery offers burritos, nachos and other traditional Mexican cuisines. Read more here.

Paxton Wines’ vineyard pop up container bar

Iconic McLaren Vale Winery Paxton wines is hosting a pop up bar in their vineyards all summer long. The mobile wine bar will have a capacity of 50 guests so make sure you get in as it’s proving to be a summer must-do. Of course there’s amazing wine on offer, as well as other drinks and a rotating lineup of food trucks. The container bar is located on Paxton Jones Block vineyard on Oliver’s road, in between S.C Pannell wines and the turn off for d’Arenberg’s Cube.

Coriole’s Arbour Bar

The beloved McLaren Vale winery has added another string to its bow with this relaxed outdoor bar, which is the perfect place to sip on some vino during Summer. Offering tasting plates of the same delicious, seasonally harvested local produce as the restaurant, the food comes from the same kitchen overseen by celebrated Gather at Coriole head chef Tom Tilbury. Eleven

Eleven, is a new restaurant and bar, from the powerhouse duo Themis Chryssidis and Callum Hann of Sprout Cooking School and Masterchef fame. The restaurant is yet to open but the open air bar is in full swing. You can sit back and relax with a beverage from their extensive drinks list and enjoy snacks such as a Swiss brown mushroom and taleggio toastie. Read More here

The Olivia Hotel

The Olivia Hotel is a Hutt Street newbie. Grungy yet romantic, the venue is more small bar than pub, with co-owners Simon Schumann and Jack Wilkes determined to open a drinking destination away from Adelaide’s East End. Read more here.

Good Gilbert

This neighbourhood spot is fast becoming a favourite amongst Goodwood road locals with their extensive wine list and welcoming vibe. The venue was doing bar snacks such as charcuterie boards and toasties but due to demand they have just employed a new chef so stay tuned for what they have in store. Read More Here

Hidden Brew Taphouse

This funky joint is tucked away in Ebeneezer Place just off Rundle Street and offers a wide range of local craft beers. They also have a menu of elevated bar food, such as, blue swimmer crab crostini, Oysters and hearty meals such as South Australian beef rump, chicken fat kipfler potatoes, confit onion and black garlic jus. Manor Basket Ranges’ Cellar Door 

While it’s not exactly a castle, The Manor Basket Range is undoubtedly one of the most decadent and historically significant buildings in South Australia. Now the Manor is upping the ante with the opening of their Tasting Room, a new offering on their stunning grounds where you can enjoy some of the Adelaide Hill’s best small batch, low intervention wines.
