Following the resolution of a lengthy legal battle between Unley Council and the owner of Unley Shopping Centre, the $150 million Unley Central development has received approval to move forward with its plans.

The Supreme Court recently ruled in favour of the local council, which plans to blend apartments, retail spaces, and leisure facilities into a vibrant new complex, located in the heart of Unley Road,

Replacing the current Target store and Memorial carpark, Unley Central is set to redefine the area as a premier destination for shopping, entertainment, and living.

The nine-storey development will combine a variety of facilities including six cinemas, cafes, a wellness centre, medical services, offices, and a supermarket. It will also host major national and international retailers, enhancing Unley Road’s appeal as a dynamic urban precinct.

The project’s centrepiece will be the brand-new 130 apartments that will suit different budgets and lifestyles, ranging from affordable one-bedroom units on Arthur Street, to luxurious residences on Unley Road (priced up to $2 million). Having the diversity as an option is intended to attract a wide range of residents, contributing to the area’s community and economy.

During its construction phase, the project will employ over 1050 full-time workers, while local retailers and suppliers are expected to benefit from approximately 1000 additional jobs.

Unley Central is set to breathe new life into Unley Road, with anticipation high among residents and businesses who are eager to see the development come to life.

Construction was initially scheduled to start in 2022 with a projected two-year completion, but that was subject to approval. Currently works have not yet begun, but are expected to begin soon, following the resolution of the legal battle between Unley Council and the owner of Unley Shopping Centre.
