1834 Hotels to operate the iconic Anchorage Hotel Victor Harbor

Victor Harbour has an exciting future with one of Australia’s leading hospitality companies confirmed as the new operator of the famed Anchorage hotel.

One of South Australia’s most iconic coastal destinations, Victor Harbour has an exciting future with one of Australia’s leading hospitality companies confirmed as the new operator of the famed Anchorage hotel.

Built in 1905, the heritage-listed Anchorage Victor Harbor, is the last remaining original guest house of the bay area. Over the years the property has been carefully renovated to meet the demands of the modern-day guest, offering 23 guest rooms, ranging from traditional accommodation through to private spa rooms with four-poster beds. Guests and visitors can enjoy an enticing bistro and bar, with menus offering a mix of traditional favourites and contemporary dishes.

Earlier this week South Australian-based hotel management specialist, 1834 Hotels, was confirmed as the new operator of heritage-listed hotel Anchorage Victor Harbor.

Currently managing a range of leading hotels, venues, and resorts across Australia, the change in management represents a welcome return to Victor Harbor for 1834 Hotels, having previously been responsible for the McCracken Country Club.

In association, 1834 Hotels has engaged hospitality identity Henry Mould as the new General Manager of Anchorage Victor Harbor.

A highly accomplished hotel manager, Henry too makes a welcome return to Victor Harbor, having also managed other notable hotels in the town.

Owner of Anchorage Victor Harbor, Greg Phillips, recently announced his intention to develop a new 4.5-star hotel on the adjoining site, to open in 2024 as a Wyndham Hotel, featuring 100 rooms, 27 apartments, two restaurants, and an array of other facilities.

The original property is very much part of this long term vision, and Mr Phillips has focused his immediate attention on revitalising Anchorage Victor Harbor’s existing bistro and heritage accommodation, for which he took the decision to engage 1834 Hotels.

Mr Phillips commented on this new direction.

“Anchorage Victor Harbor is very much part of this town’s DNA, and I am committed to ensuring it retains status as one of the destination’s iconic seafront hotels. On this basis, I am very pleased to have engaged an experienced operator of 1834 Hotels’ calibre to oversee operations, and am equally excited at the appointment of Henry Mould as General Manager.”

“This new management team is completely attuned to the needs and potential of this destination and the wider tourism sector, and I look forward to what can be achieved together going forward.”

Andrew Bullock, CEO of 1834 Hotels, commented on his company’s return to Victor Harbor, “Over the years we have developed a very close affinity with Victor Harbor. It is a wonderful destination – an icon really – with a warm engaging community who always make guests feel welcome, and who contribute so strongly to the hospitality and tourism sector.”

“We jumped at the chance to manage Anchorage Victor Harbor. Not only does this Hotel embody the character and heritage of the town, but it also has a bold vision for the future. Our team is very excited about this and we thank Greg Phillips for the opportunity.”

Mr Bullock went on to say, “The regional hotel market is buoyant at the moment, and will be for the foreseeable future, as people continue to explore their own backyard and holiday here in Australia.”

Changes patrons can expect at Anchorage Victor Harbor over the coming period include a new bistro menu, and an upgrade to the dining setting, with a new kitchen and enhanced layout embracing the venue’s stunning sea views. Plans are also afoot to upgrade the Hotel’s unique guest accommodation, which will be publicised as part of 1834 Hotels’ extensive destination marketing activities for Victor Harbor.
