1837 Barossa unveils $20m upgrade with Grand Opening event

With gourmet restaurant, rooms and helipad, the picturesque estate is a destination location with some of the best views of the Barossa.

Unrivalled, sweeping views of the picturesque Barossa Valley are what awaits you as you enter through the gates of the region’s newest landmark destination. The completely refurbished 1837 Estate which plays host to the newly added gourmet restaurant, Horizon at 1837, is officially opening to guests this September in an all-day affair of food, wine and music.

Crowned as “The Birth Place of the Barossa”, the landmark destination is aptly named to commemorate the date on which Colonel William Light, founder of Adelaide and first Surveyor General of South Australia, named the Barossa in 1837. As well as its new gourmet restaurant, the estate offers a cellar door, accommodation, seminar centre, helipad, ATP-sized tennis court and arguably the best views of Barossa.

The Horizon at 1837 Barossa Restaurant and Cellar celebrates a marriage of contemporary Australian cuisine where Barossa’s local produce enhances the flavour of SA’s phenomenal seasonal produce.

The gourmet restaurant offers a culinary experience at reasonable prices and is quickly making a name for itself as the new place to be in the Barossa. The ethos of internationally renowned Executive Chef A’kash, formerly Mirage Dubai, is leading the Horizon at 1837 together with his wife Shali creating a special, seasonal menu using the best fresh produce sourced locally. The food is adventurous without being expensive for those pure inspired flavours with an ambience to relax and indulge all the senses.

From the moment you arrive up the long, gravel driveway you are instantly encapsulated by the stunning architecture of the historic building that perfectly combines antiquity with modern designs. The complete refurbishment is thanks to the ambition of the Swiss tech entrepreneurial Auchli family and allows for spectacular views over the Barossa from each angle of the estate.

Antique centre pieces as far back as 1720 have been hand-selected by the Auchli family from their various travels in Europe and are tastefully enhanced with modern interior design classics giving the historic place a fresh and contemporary appearance.

The Grand Opening event is a chance for guests to experience this quintessential Barossa founding through a day of incredible food and world-class wines all taking place within the beautiful grounds that really do need to be seen to be believed.

And, if you’re feeling adventurous, treat yourself to the best views of the region with an unforgettable helicopter tour direct from 1837’s helipad. This experience will cost $100 and can be pre-booked ahead of time or purchased on the day.

The Barossa Mayor, Bim Lange, will perform a special opening ceremony on the day and says “This is one of the most significant additions to the Barossa tourism offering of the last 10 years.

“This $20m redevelopment of 1837 Barossa has created a true Barossa landmark at the exact place where the Barossa has been named in 1837. It is showcasing a fresh and new Barossa with state-of-the-art Infrastructure for international and interstate tourists, as well as for our local community.”

Tickets for this incredible event are $20 which includes canapes and a welcome drink from the exclusive 1837 Barossa prestige selection and can be booked here.

The 1837 Grand Opening Event will take place on Saturday September 3rd from 11am.

1837 Barossa is located at 119 Yaldara Drive in Lyndoch.
