2 Australian airlines ranked top 3 safest in the world by AirlineRatings.com, with Air New Zealand taking out top spot.

Air New Zealand has been crowned the world’s safest airline for 2024 by AirlineRatings.com, narrowly edging out last year’s winner, Qantas. In fact, two of the top three safest airlines awarded are Australian.

AirlineRatings.com, the world’s sole safety and product rating website, carefully evaluates airlines based on various criteria, including serious incidents, recent fatal accidents, audits from aviation governing and industry bodies, profitability, industry-leading safety initiatives, expert pilot training assessments, and fleet age. These factors collectively determine an airline’s safety ranking.

Geoffrey Thomas, Editor-in-Chief of AirlineRatings.com, remarked on the incredibly close competition between Air New Zealand and Qantas, with a mere 1.5-point difference between them.

“Our Top Twenty-Five Safest Airlines are all standouts in the industry and are at the forefront of safety, innovation, and the launch of new aircraft,” stated Mr. Thomas.

While the ranking includes an array of stringent safety measures, it excludes events beyond an airline’s control, such as bird strikes, turbulence injuries, weather diversions, and lightning strikes.

Air New Zealand secured the top spot due to its unwavering commitment to safety, excelling across a wide safety spectrum, from major procedures to the minutest details.

The airline’s pilots operate in some of the world’s most challenging environments, showcasing their dedication and expertise.
