2011 Adelaide Cup Myer Fashions on the Field Competition

At a perfect sunny 27C the girls came far and wide to compete for the title of 2011 Adelaide Casino Adelaide Cup, Myer Fashions on the Field Winner. It was evident what the Judges were looking for, placing their bets on a classic style and lady-like sophistication.

With a total of 119 girls entering the competition, it was broken down into several heats. The panel of judges lead by the infamous Rebecca Judd (nee Twiggly), hand picked the most stylish and race worthy outfits heat by heat.

There were some absolutely gorgeous outfits and incredible headwear, but unfortunately the majority of entrants were more of a miss than a hit. Several entrants opting for an unflattering silhouette for their body shape, terrible colour coordination, and often dresses that were way too revealing for a race day.

However, when it came down to the top ten, the entrants were picked on style and originality. There was an obvious classic Mad Men feel to each outfit, with a dominant 50s influence including longer hemlines, capped sleeves and beautiful prints.

After a bit of convincing I decided to enter the competition wearing a dress that I had made for the day, and was fortunate enough to make it to the final top ten to receive a $50 Myer gift card for an exciting start to my day!

The overall winning style for this year was elegance and sophistication, which was evident in the outfits worn by winner Louise Panas, 30, of North Brighton, runner-up Jennifer Marsh, 35, of Naracoorte, and Bobbi Edwards, 26, of Mildura, in third place.

Every entrant received a pair of stockings and a complimentary glass of champagne.

First place received the State title, a nine day trip for two to the 2011 Melbourne Cup Carnival to compete for the National title worth $10,000, and a Myer gift card. The remaining top ten shared in prizes of Myer gift cards and SAJC hospitality packages.
