2022 Remembrance Day commemorations and events guide

Here is your 2022 guide to Adelaide’s Remembrance Day events and how you can help support war veterans and their families.

On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minute’s silence is observed to remember the soldiers who lost their lives fighting in the First and Second World War. The date is recognised around the world as it was at this time, in 1918 that the guns of the First World War stopped firing and the war was officially declared over.

A number of commemoration services are happening across Adelaide for you to pay your respects.

Adelaide Commemoration

The most recognisable service is of course at the National War Memorial on the corner of North Terrace and Kintore Avenue by Government House. The monument is adorned with the ceremonial poppy flowers, wreaths and crosses and many veterans and members of the state will be in attendance to show their respect.

The Field of Remembrance will also be open to visitors at the lawns adjacent to Government House where veterans and school students have planted thousands of crosses.

West Terrace Cemetary

World War II veterans will be among the special guests at a Remembrance Day service held at
West Terrace Cemetery.

The centenarians will join students from 10 local primary and secondary schools and other
guests to acknowledge those who have served in past conflicts and still serving today.

The service will commence at 10am.
