At this year’s Langhorne Creek Wine Show, Bleasdale Vineyards emerged triumphant, clinching the prestigious Champion Wine of Show title, while Bremerton Wines secures the esteemed Producer of the Year accolade, boasting an impressive tally of five trophies spanning both conventional and alternative varieties.

The awards ceremony, held on Friday, May 17th, brought together 200 grape growers, winemakers, trade representatives, suppliers, and winery staff for a regional celebration marking the conclusion of the vintage season. The event took place in a marquee set against the picturesque lawns of Bleasdale Vineyards, providing a fitting backdrop for the occasion.

In a fitting conclusion to his tenure at Bleasdale Vineyards, departing winemaker Paul Hotker once again showcases his mastery with Malbec, with the Bleasdale 2022 Generations Malbec claiming the coveted New Holland Agriculture Best Malbec trophy and ultimately earning the revered Multi-Color Corporation Champion Wine of Show award. Newly appointed Bleasdale senior winemaker Matt Laube, who has collaborated with Paul for 15 years, graciously accepts the trophy on behalf of the team.

Meanwhile, Bremerton Wines and winemaker Rebecca Willson amass an impressive collection of five trophies, including the distinguished Belvidere Winery Producer of the Year award, offering a delightful array of traditional and alternative varietals to the esteemed guests at this year’s Langhorne Creek Wine Show luncheon.

Chair of Judges Sue Bell presides over the proceedings alongside esteemed wine writer Dave Brookes and Riley Harrison from Harrison Wine, accompanied by associate judges Sam Rowlands, Tyler Follett, and Jordan McAnaney for the 2024 judging panel.

“The 2021 and 2022 vintages are showing very strong, with a special nod to the Malbec class – a variety that Langhorne Creek can really hang its hat on,” Sue Bell said.

“The balance of poise, fruit and tannin of the Bleasdale 2022 Generations Malbec came out on top, but not without stiff competition.”
