One of the most anticipated events on the AFL calendar, Gather Round returns to SA next April, bringing a jam-packed four days of sport to destinations across the state. The round, kicking off on April 9th, will see all AFL teams head to SA playing games at Barossa Park, Adelaide Oval and Norwood Oval until the 12th.
The round will kick off on the Thursday with Adelaide taking on Carlton at Adelaide Oval from 7:10pm ACST. In the days leading up to the first game Adelaide locals and those travelling from interstate will have already started to get in on all the action, with festival vibes and footy taking over the city.
Friday will see another Adelaide Oval evening game, with Collingwood going head-to-head with Fremantle from 7:10pm ACST. That wraps up the weekday games, and sets the stage for the seven weekend games to follow.
Saturday will begin at Barossa Park with North Melbourne v Brisbane at 12:05pm ACST. Then all eyes will be back on Adelaide oval at 12:45pm ACST when Essendon take on Melbourne. In the afternoon Sydney will go up against Gold Coast at Norwood Oval at 3:45pm ACST. Then the day will wrap up with Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval at 7:05pm ACST.
Norwood will open Sunday’s festivities with Geelong v West Coast at Norwood Oval from 12pm ACST. Then Greater Western Sydney will take on Richmond at Barossa Park from 2.45pm ACST. Finally, wrapping up all the festivities will be Port Adelaide as they take St Kilda.
Gather Round also brings in a huge economic boost to the state. “This fixture, the start of school holidays in South Australia and New South Wales, and middle of school holidays in other states, presents the perfect platform for visitors and locals alike to experience the best SA has to offer,” said Premier Peter Malinauskas.
“We encourage everyone to come, and experience Gather Round, be it in the city, or the stunning Barossa Valley. Gather Round this year delivered almost $114 m in economic benefits, but the event is also driving new investment in our state, including at major hotels like the Mayfair.”
