Roma Mitchell Secondary College is set to redefine educational landscape and bring forth a renewed focus on sports in a groundbreaking $21m expansion project.
This endeavour promises to usher in an era of transformation, not only by accommodating an additional 180 students but also by providing state-of-the-art facilities to nurture young talents in the realm of sports.
The school will welcome a cutting-edge, two-court gymnasium that is designed to meet international competition standards. This new facility will be a testament to the college’s commitment to promoting physical fitness and fostering the growth of future sports champions. The site will also have modern cahnge rooms and ammenties for both students and guests.
But the expansion doesn’t stop there. Six spacious classrooms will be added to the campus, ensuring that the college can continue to deliver high-quality education to its growing student population. Additionally, teacher preparation areas, a first aid room, a canteen, and a cafeteria will be constructed to support the needs of both students and staff.
“The expansion of Roma Mitchell Secondary College will enable the school to meet the growing needs of students in Adelaide’s inner northern suburbs,” Minister for Education, Training and Skills Blair Boyer said.
“This forms part of our strategic plan for asset management, to ensure work occurs in the right place at the right time, to make every school and preschool great.
“Our children deserve to have safe and secure learning environments to support them, and each of these projects will make a significant impact.”
Upon completion, the enhanced facilities will elevate the school’s capacity, accommodating a total of 2114 students. As the construction progresses, anticipation builds for the grand unveiling, which is expected by the end of this year.
Roma Mitchell Secondary College boasts a unique structure, consisting of four distinct campuses all situated on the same Gepps Cross site. The college’s diversity is a testament to its commitment to offering a wide range of educational opportunities. The girls’ campus, a co-educational middle campus, a senior campus, and a special education campus all come together to create a rich tapestry of learning experiences. This expansion project seeks to enhance each of these campuses, ensuring that every student has access to world-class facilities.
“The first sod turn today is a significant milestone in this next phase of expansion at Roma Mitchell Secondary College,” Roma Mitchell Secondary College Toni Carellas said.
“The new state-of-the-art facilities will allow us to welcome more students in the future and meet their growing educational needs.
“The new gymnasium will ensure our students have access to indoor facilities, especially in times of extreme weather conditions.“
