South Australia has proudly marked its presence in the 2023 Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards, with several local spots earning accolades for their impressive wine lists.
The awards ceremony took place at the Ovolo Hotel in Woolloomooloo NSW, and Restaurant Botanic emerged as a standout, winning the Best Wine List in South Australia, and also featuring in the category of Australia’s Best Wine List (200 Wines). It was also a finalist for Australia’s Best Non-Alcoholic List, showcasing its diverse and top-quality beverage offerings.
The Salopian Inn was a finalist in the category of Australia’s Best Country Restaurant Wine List. This recognition is a nod to the Inn’s refined and well-curated wine selection that complements its menu, enhancing the overall dining experience for its patrons.
In the category of Australia’s Best Pub Restaurant Wine List, Uraidla Hotel and Crafers Hotel were both finalists. These venues have managed to bring a fine dining wine list into the relaxed setting of a pub, offering the best of both worlds to their patrons.
Uraidla Hotel also won the title for Australia’s Best Listing of South Australian Wines, with other local venues like Hardy’s Verandah and The Salopian Inn being finalists in this category.
Several other local venues, including 2KW Bar & Restaurant, Arkhé Restaurant + Bar, and Chianti Restaurant, received the prestigious Three Glasses rating, indicating their commitment to offering exceptional wine lists and top-notch service.
The awards, now in their 30th year, are a significant event in the culinary world of Australia, highlighting the dedication and efforts of sommeliers and venue owners across the country. The judging panel, comprising respected professionals from the wine industry, evaluates each wine list on various parameters including content, balance, presentation, and pricing.
On a national level, Sydney’s Cirrus Dining was crowned Australia’s Wine List of the Year. This venue demonstrated a spectacular and innovative wine list, earning praise and recognition from the judges.
Other finalists for this prestigious award included Merivale’s Mr Wong in Sydney and Andrew McConnell’s Gimlet at Cavendish House in Melbourne.
The strength and resilience of the hospitality industry were celebrated, with venues from different states and territories being recognized for their exceptional wine lists, reflecting the growing diversity and richness of Australia’s wine culture.
