cricket-ball-webAustralia’s grass-roots sporting clubs are being invited to apply for much needed funds with the opening of applications for the second round of Holden’s Home Ground Advantage (HGA) program.

Home Ground Advantage is a $5 million, 10 year program that provides grants to community based sporting clubs across Australia. Twice a year, $250,000 is given out, with one major grant going to a project up to $100,000 in value and the remaining funds going to projects up to $10,000 in value.

Holden’s Chairman and Managing Director, Jeff Rolfs, said that Holden was thrilled to be launching the second round of Home Ground Advantage.

“The first round of our HGA program saw almost 1600 sporting clubs around the country apply for a grant. The major grant winner, Maryborough Bears Football Club in Queensland, received $100,000 to rebuild their facilities and change-rooms and we were absolutely delighted to be able to support such a great local club. Mr Rolfs said.

“Grass roots community sporting clubs are an integral part of Australian life, much like Holden, and being able to support them in this way is terrific.

“Sporting clubs do so much for local communities; they give kids a sense of purpose, facilitate healthy activity and promote concepts like teamwork, sacrifice and discipline – not to mention give weekend warriors the chance to continue to live out their dreams.”

19 clubs received grants in the first round of Home Ground Advantage, including the Maryborough Bears AFL club in Queensland who received the first ever $100,000 HGA grant to rebuild clubrooms.

“Home Ground Advantage supported projects big and small and from a wide range of sporting codes, so I encourage all clubs out there who needs funds to get on-line and put in an application,” Mr Rolfs said

A feature of the Home Ground Advantage application process is the option to share a YouTube clip that demonstrates not only why the funds are needed, but also the characters, personalities and team spirit that makes the club applying special.

“We really loved the YouTube clips that were sent in with applications in the first round and look forward to seeing what the clubs of Australia have for us in the next round,” Jeff Rolfs said.

Home Ground applications opened on June 1, with all applications closing August 31. The application process is entirely on-line and clubs seeking more information, or wanting to apply should visit www.holden.com.au/homegroundadvantage.
