Eight floors above the corner of King William Street and North Terrace, Adelaide’s newest and most exciting bar and restaurant experience, 2KW Bar and Restaurant launched last night to an intimate group of invited media.

The glamorous affair treated guests to fine wines and cocktails while watching the sun set over the city, followed by a divine preview of the menu. Dishes included dishes including marinated white anchovies, classic mozzarella salad, falafel salad and dry aged 500gm 100% Hereford rib eye. Needless to say, nobody walked away hungry (or disappointed). The team behind this must-visit venue have really pulled together something quite special.

In a breathtaking achievement of engineering and design, 2KW is the first entertainment venue to rest atop a state heritage listed building – the former Bank of New South Wales building at 2 King William Street, in Adelaide’s CBD.  It breaks new ground in bringing an Adelaide dining and entertainment venue to world standards.

2KW offers five individual entertainment areas – The Restaurant, Loggia Bar, The Terrace, The Cabanas and The Garden.  The venue spans 550 square metres and has a capacity for 260 patrons, with the restaurant accommodating 70 of those.

2KW Bar and Restaurant co-owner, Mr Martin Palmer said: “Many things will set 2KW Bar and Restaurant apart, not least of which are the stunning 180 degree-plus views to the north – from the hills to the coast – and also south back down King William Street, which offers a view of nearly every iconic building in Adelaide.

The venue’s hosts are both world-class and local, all with their roots here in SA: Operations Manager, Simon Adami; Head Chef, Nick Finn and Sommelier, James Parham.

IMG_4635Mr Palmer said: “2KW Bar and Restaurant will offer a unique, premium wine delivery experience called ‘Barrel Thieves’. We have partnered with great local winemakers to make special batches of wine exclusively for 2KW. We called the concept Barrel Thieves because it’s almost as though we have ‘stolen’ these unique small batch offerings.”

“They are labelled by name as a personal guarantee.  For example, we have Dean Hewitson’s Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc and a McLaren Vale Roussanne made by Cascabel’s Susana Fernandez and Duncan Ferguson.”

The menus are designed for sharing and offers the best of SA seasonal produce, with influences from all over the globe.  There are other unequivocal (and some hilarious) SA references in the menu and wine list, with some cocktails paying homage to an array of proximate state icons.

The exterior of 2KW is an inner city oasis, inspired by the flamboyant eccentricity and sophisticated frivolity of West Hollywood through the use of colour, lighting, pattern and sculptural planting.

The interior is an array of textures and creative use of natural and artificial light and complemented with hints of 2KW’s signature copper touches.

Mr Palmer said: “2KW captures everything an extraordinary bar atop an inner city building should be: excitement, glamour and fun. We can’t wait to showcase this truly amazing bar and restaurant experience.”

Located just a stone’s throw from Adelaide Oval and the Torrens River, this venue is absolutely one to visit whether it be for relaxing drinks overlooking the stunning views, or to indulge in the brilliant culinary offerings. We suggest you book early as 2KW is set to become THE destination this Summer.
