3 major SA venues snapped up by Sydney-based hospitality company in $80M deal

Sydney’s Oscars Group has entered the Adelaide market with an $80 million purchase of three landmark hospitality venues in a major national expansion.

In a bold move set to shake up Adelaide’s hotel scene, Sydney-based hospitality heavyweight Oscars Group has made its first foray into South Australia, snapping up three of the city’s most loved venues in an $80 million deal.

The portfolio includes the Lakes Resort Hotel in West Lakes, the Bridgeway Hotel in Pooraka, and the Maid Hotel in Stepney. It marks a major expansion for the family-run business, which is already one of New South Wales’ largest operators.

Run by brothers Mario and Bill Gravanis, Oscars Group has built a diverse collection of venues across NSW and beyond, spanning everything from hotels and pubs to resorts and entertainment destinations.

The waterfront Lakes Resort Hotel

Each of the Adelaide venues is already a local icon. The waterfront Lakes Resort Hotel features 72 guest rooms, function spaces, and a bustling retail liquor outlet. The Bridgeway is a north-eastern favourite for live music lovers and underwent a major renovation in 2019. Meanwhile, the Maid Hotel is a beloved inner-east landmark with a loyal following and a popular beer garden that draws steady foot traffic year-round.

This expansion brings more than 30,000 square metres of land, 113 gaming machine entitlements, and significant retail and accommodation space under the Oscars banner. It’s one of the biggest hospitality plays in South Australia this year.

The deal was brokered by JLL’s John Musca, who said Adelaide is increasingly attracting interstate investment thanks to its strong trade and stable conditions for licensed venues.

North-eastern favourite The Bridgeway Hotel

Previously owned by the Fahey Hotel Group, the pubs have been a fixture in the local hospitality scene for decades. In a heartfelt note to staff, the Fahey family described the decision to sell as incredibly difficult, but said they believe Oscars Group will “make the pubs even better.”

Subject to regulatory approvals, the handover is expected to take place in early August.

For Adelaide locals, it signals a new chapter for three well-known venues. One that’s set to blend familiar charm with the polish of a national hospitality leader.
