OpenTable and KAYAK have joined forces to reveal Australia’s top 25 Hotel Restaurants. The guide celebrates all things food, drink, and travel, and their verdict is clear, these restaurants are destinations in their own right.
When you picture your classic hotel restaurant, you might not think of anything too flashy, but these 25 spots are sure to prove you wrong. The guide combines diner reviews, demand metrics and booking data, highlighting places that deliver experiences that linger long after a 10am checkout.
Included in the list were three superstar SA dining spots, Coal Cellar + Grill at the Hilton, Shiki at the InterContinental, and Koomo at Crowne Plaza Adelaide.
Coal Cellar + Grill is known for combining the very best of SA produce with fantastic, handpicked wines from top cellar doors. The menu balances everything from seafood to vegetarian and meat dishes, including a show-stopping signature tomahawk steak. They’ve got private dining spaces perfect for special events and functions, and the hotel even has a bar downstairs. You can find the Hilton centrally in the city, overlooking Victoria Square.

The InterContinental’s Shiki is another long-term favourite. Shiki has just undergone a fantastic transformation, bringing a renewed focus to refined traditions of Japanese cooking. Shiki uses the very best of local and Japanese produce, mixed in with a bit of showmanship, too. They are masters of teppanyaki, making for a dining experience that you truly won’t find elsewhere.
Rene Bennett, Director of Food & Beverage at InterContinental Adelaide shared, “There are many aspects – nostalgia is undoubtedly one of the driving factors behind Shikis success…. but it is a nostalgia built from a sustained and ongoing focus to authenticity to the product and service that I believes resonates and allows Shiki to hold a special place in peoples hearts.”
Another Japanese favourite that made the list is Koomo. Located high above the east end on level 10 of the Crowne Plaza Adelaide, this is a great spot for fresh seafood, phenomenal Asian fusion flavours, and stunning views to match. Koomo takes inspiration from Japanese design and perfectly blends it with elements of Art Deco style, making for a gorgeous dining experience.
According to data found by OpenTable and KAYAK, a massive 72 per cent of Australians would rebook a hotel based purely on a great restaurant experience, and more than two-thirds believe hotel dining has seriously levelled up in recent years. 68 per cent also say hotel restaurants should cater to both travellers and locals, and increasingly, they are.
Hotel restaurants are becoming increasingly stylish too, with menus built around local produce and top-tier service, making them destinations in their own right. KAYAK saw a 64 per cent increase in users applying the ‘restaurant’ filter when searching for hotels, and 29 per cent of diners said Instagram-worthy dishes really draw them in.
These stats (and these totally fabulous restaurants) hint that next time you’re planning a night out or a getaway, maybe don’t look past the lobby. Who knows, you might just find your new favourite spot!
