$30 SA wine named the best Shiraz in Australia

The $30 bottle of Shiraz was named Australia’s best beating out 258 other reds including some of Australia’s most prestigious bottles costing up to $250.

Boutique Adelaide winery Kirrihill has proved it doesn’t cost much for a good drop.

Their 2019 Partner Series Shiraz Clare Valley took out the top prize at the 2021 Great Australian Shiraz Challenge.

The $30 bottle of Shiraz was named Australia’s best beating out 258 other reds including some of Australia’s most prestigious bottles costing up to $250.

Kirrihill Winery located in the heart of Clare Valley has earned many top titles including winning ‘gold’ at the Royal Perth Wine Show, New World Wine Show and the Clare Wine Show, as well as scoring a total of 98/100 points at the Winestate’s best of South Australia awards.

The Shiraz grapes were grown over a challenging season due to the dry winter and spring seasons. The wine mulled over 20 months in French and American oak barrels to develop the rich and robust flavour that led to the red’s win.

Kirrihill Wines Sardi Calver described the win as a terrific accomplishment for the Winery.

“We are really really excited about the win.”

“The fact that a Clare Valley Winery won is great for the region and it’s really great for us to be on the map.”

Kirrihill describes the award-winning drop as a “’rich and robust Shiraz that begs for more’ with flavours of cherry, blackberry and dark chocolate and hints of cocoa nib and hazelnuts.”

Sardi described the blend as “ a delicious complex Shiraz with lots of forwarding fruit that’s great for drinking now or cellaring.”

Kirrihill Wines was crowned as the nations best Shiraz at the Great Australian Shiraz Challenge. The awards led to the sell-out of many of their most popular blends. For those wanting to get their hands on a bottle, Kirrihill Wines have completely sold out but orders from the range can be made via their website, Dan Murphy’s have limited stock available for delivery.
