The 2022 Lloyd Brothers McLaren Vale Estate Blend GSM won the Best Grenache Blend award at the National Wine Show of Australia on Thursday, May 30th. Hoorah!
This prestigious event showcases the top wines from qualifying Australian wine shows, with the best of the best being announced as the Trophy winner in their class.
After receiving a Gold Medal / 95 points at the 2023 Royal Adelaide Wine Show, the 2022 Lloyd Brothers McLaren Vale Estate Blend GSM was not only qualified to enter the race but was also a front-runner in its class.
On Thursday night, Winemaker Gonzalo Sanchez and General Manager Sam Temme accepted the Trophy for Best Grenache Blend at the National Press Club of Australia in Canberra.

This achievement marks the culmination of the Lloyd Brothers’ successful streak. They have secured four trophies in the last four wine shows, each for different wines.
Their 2023 Lloyd Brothers McLaren Vale Picpoul received the Best New and Emerging White Wine Trophy at the McLaren Vale Show.
In the same year, their Lloyd Brothers Adelaide Hills Estate Pinot Grigio claimed the Best Pinot Grigio/Gris trophy at the Adelaide Hills Wine Show, as well as their 2022 Lloyd Brothers Adelaide Hills Syrah winning the Best South Australian Shiraz trophy at the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards.
These award-winning wines are all crafted from estate-grown fruit. They’re proudly produced at the winery, located just steps away from its McLaren Vale Cellar Door.
Winemaker Gonzalo Sanchez expressed his excitement about the award:
“This is a great reason for my first visit to the nation’s capital. The Estate Blend GSM is a wine that I love crafting from our Bushvine Grenache and Mourvedre, with carefully selected Shiraz from our original planting to complete the wine.”
General Manager Sam Temme added:
“We believe the GSM blend is perfect to highlight the fruit grown on our McLaren Vale Estate and is a blend that thrives in McLaren Vale. Very deliberately, Grenache led, creating a delicious medium-bodied style.”
