$3M upgrade for Hutt Street promised as new state-of-the-art wellness hub officially opens

Hutt Street and Hutt Road is set to undergo a major transformation as the government delivers on its key election commitment.

The heart of Adelaide is set to undergo a transformation as the Government delivers on its promise to revitalise Hutt Street in partnership with the City of Adelaide.

The much-anticipated official opening of Davaar House of Wellness, which is a state-of-the-art wellness hub inside an old but beautifully renovated mansion, marks the beginning of this process of revamping the precinct.

The Member for Adelaide, Lucy Hood MP, has made a commitment of $3 million towards the Hutt Street Entry Statement Project, a visionary initiative aimed at welcoming visitors from the Park Lands into Hutt Street.

“This investment complements the magnificent, multi-million-dollar restoration of Davaar House, helping create a stunning entry to this beloved main street. It’s a testament to the exciting future ahead for Hutt Street,” Lucy Hood says.

This project will see the creation of lush green spaces, with newly planted trees lining the entrance to the southern Hutt Street precinct.

New pathways will meander along the edge of the city’s Park Lands, inviting pedestrians and cyclists to explore this vibrant neighborhood. Public art installations will guide the way to the heart of Hutt Street, enhancing the overall experience for both residents and visitors alike.

In addition to the beautification efforts, the City of Adelaide will install a new Park Lands trail crossing, further connecting the community. The project is scheduled to kick off in 2024, with stage two of the upgrade set to begin construction in 2026 after extensive community consultation.

These infrastructure improvements, coupled with the arrival of new businesses like Davaar House of Wellness, promise to breathe new life into the area. They will act as magnets, drawing in new patrons and supporting the existing small businesses that have long been the lifeblood of Hutt Street.

“Congratulations to Fiona and Oscar Fiorinotto on the magnificent restoration of Davaar House and the opening of their new business,” Minister for Small and Family Business Andrea Michaels says.

“The Malinauskas Government is committed to supporting small businesses in South Australia and our $3 million investment in new infrastructure for Hutt Street will attract new people to the street to patronise local businesses.”

The Government’s recent release of the $14 million Small Business Strategy, comprises of 20 measures aimed at fostering growth and success, underscores this dedication.

“Thanks to the Member for Adelaide’s strong advocacy, we have received a significant contribution from the State Government to help us deliver this project. This is only the beginning of Council’s $12.5 million commitment to a master plan that will transform Hutt Street,” Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith says.

The master plan includes better footpaths, additional cycling paths, more trees, and improved lighting. These enhancements will make the precinct more pedestrian and cyclist-friendly, benefitting both residents and local hospitality businesses.

Fiona Fiorinotto, the owner of Davaar House of Wellness, shared her mission, saying, “In creating Davaar House of Wellness, my mission was to create a safe and welcoming space where people can learn to prioritise their own wellbeing. We are delighted to be positioned as the gateway to the city and Hutt Street, and we welcome the Malinauskas Government’s investment, which will make a big difference for local businesses and residents.”
