South Australians have jumped on board with the Great State Vouchers scheme with the 50,000 allocated vouchers being snapped up in just over an hour this morning.
The vouchers – a $4 million tourism stimulus initiative of the South Australian Tourism Commission – sold out in 90 minutes.
Regional vouchers were exhausted by 9.55am, and CBD vouchers sold out at 10.27am.
The first voucher was claimed before 9.01am.
“Around 50,000 vouchers were issued – that’s a great shot in the arm for the South Australian tourism sector that is focused on fighting back to its 2019 $8.1 billion record high,” according to SATC Chief Executive Rodney Harrex.
“We’d like to thank all of those South Australians who have logged in today – effectively helping to book out rooms from now until 11 December – it’s the kind of support that is going to give hospitality staff and tourism operators a massive reason to smile this morning.
“We are now looking forward to hearing where South Australians book their stays – will they choose one of the new five star hotels in the city or maybe head to the regions. There are many amazing deals and iconic accommodation properties, so this is a great way for everyone to get out and explore our own state.”
People who claimed a voucher now have two weeks – until 31 October – to use their unique verification code to book a room at one of the participating accommodation providers.
Due to the influx of bookings the site experienced a few minutes of down time with patient South Australians rewarded for waiting for the traffic surge to ease.
Confirmation emails have also been slightly delayed. Emails confirming vouchers will be sent out throughout the day.
Once you receive your email confirming your voucher follow these two steps:
- Choose from the participating accommodation providers.
- Book your stay directly with your chosen provider. You must provide your unique Voucher number on booking.
The vouchers are valid for travel from 15 October to 11 December 2020.
