As part of the $42 million Barossa Park Project, the Lyndoch Recreation Park is being redeveloped to include an upgraded AFL-standard oval, a new second recreational oval to accommodate athletics, and a modern multi-purpose building. The new facility will feature a 300-seat event space, a commercial kitchen, a clubroom, changing rooms, and a gym.
The Barossa Council’s Mayor, Bim Lange, says Barossa Park is on track to become a new home for major events in South Australia, kicking off with the inaugural Barossa AFL Gather Round, which has been locked in from the 10th to 13th of April for 2025.
“It’s terrific to see work is well underway on our AFL oval, which is inspired by ‘the hill’ at iconic Adelaide Oval,” shares Mayor Lange.
“Built to full AFL specifications with 750 lux lighting, it really will have the best view in the house.”
With a capacity of 10,000 people, the redevelopment will be a game-changer for the regional economy.
Aside from the oval, the facilities will cater for major arts, festivals, music and community events, creating the potential for another 18,000 visitors to stay in the Barossa each year and space to develop new Barossa visitor experiences and products.
There will also be netball courts, a playground, family garden, shelters and landscaping, perfectly suited for the local community.
The main two-storey facility will be complemented by a new event pavilion to service the main oval, activating both indoor and outdoor spaces.
Along with beautiful architecture and stunning Barossa views, the redevelopment has been designed to leave a lighter footprint. Clever design principles and energy-efficient systems have been incorporated throughout the facility which is another drawcard for visitors who care about sustainable tourism.
Barossa Park Project is a partnership between The Barossa Council and the South Australian Government delivering sports, events and community facilities.
