$42m sporting hub redevelopment proposed for Lyndoch Recreation Park

Plans to build a multi-million dollar sporting venue in the heart of South Australia’s wine country have been submitted.

Plans to transform Lyndoch’s Recreation Park into a new $42m sporting hub have been submitted with hopes to make the Barossa the epicentre of community sport.

The plans include preserving the existing tennis club infrastructure, constructing a two-storey sports clubhouse, establishing a spectator pavilion, installing lighting fixtures around the refurbished oval, building verandah structures, adding a storage shed and an amenities building, and erecting new fencing around the netball courts.

The new clubrooms hopes to seat up to 180 people as those inside the venue enjoy panoramic views of the oval. Improvements will also be made to the current kitchen, restrooms, and changerooms to accommodate umpire rooms and a gym. Additionally, there will be four gender-neutral changerooms for football and cricket, renovations to the existing tennis clubrooms, and the construction of two new changerooms to cater to both tennis and netball.

While certain facilities, like the clubroom, will be available for occasional rental, its primary purpose remains to function as a hub for organisations affiliated with the recreational area’s usage. Likewise, the recreational area is anticipated to accommodate regional gatherings, such as agricultural shows or sports events.

The clubrooms, ovals and courts will be utilised by various sporting and athletics clubs including the
Barossa Districts Football and Netball Club, Lyndoch Tennis Club, Lyndoch Cricket Club and Lyndoch
Little Athletics.

A vineyard next to the site was purchased in 2023 to help accommodate for the new sport and recreation green, a new family playground and second support shed with a public toilet.

The new facilities will look to complement those in Tanunda, Nuriootpa and Angaston in hopes to make the Barossa a genuine destination for both sports and tourism events, in line with Council’s delivery of The Big Project.
