44 South Aussie CEOs have pledged to sleep ‘rough’ to raise funds

Homeless BoySo far, 44 South Australian CEOs have registered to spend a night sleeping rough as part of St Vincent de Paul’s CEO Sleepout on June 17th 2010. The Sleepout will be held at the Adelaide Zoo and it is hoped that 100 CEOs will participate, raising much needed funds and awareness for Australia’s homeless.

SA, Vinnies operates the Vincentian Centre in Whitmore Square – a  tailored homeless service for men. Last year it provided nearly 10,000 bed spaces. We also run Fred’s Van  – a mobile food service of  four vans operating in seven locations – Adelaide, Salisbury, Elizabeth, Gawler, Christie’s Beach, Semaphore and Ferryden Park.
We work  with our mostly new arrival Refugees and Migrants, many of whom have been unable to find work and seek assistance from the Migrant & Refugee Centre on Port Road.
Some of the most common reasons for homelessness in Adelaide are long term unemployment, the impact of Mental Illness and family breakdown. We provide services to address these needs and offer hope to people on the margins of society – who may be displaced, hungry or in need of clothing, furniture, support or company.
