5SOSAUSTRALIANALBUMCOVER.184238Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer today announced the release of their highly anticipated debut self-titled album – out June 27. The album is available for pre-order now via www.5sos.com

Yesterday, fans were given a chance to unlock clues to the band’s album release date via their ‘Hungry 5SOS’ interactive online game which sent fans into a frenzy with one fan tweeting ““Hi we are 5 Seconds Of Summer and we like to leak our songs and album artwork in a game where we run around trying to eat you”. The response to ‘Hungry 5SOS’ was enormous with over 2 million fans trying to log in, bringing the band’s server to an incredible halting crash.

Recorded in Los Angeles earlier this year, ‘5 Seconds Of Summer’ is a collection of infectious pop-punk anthems written for the adoring fans that have been instrumental in the band’s success.  Key collaborations on the album include; John Feldmann (All Time Low, Good Charlotte, Boys Like Girls), Jake Sinclair (Fall Out Boy, Pink), Steve Robson (Busted) and The Madden Brothers of Good Charlotte.

“We decided to self-title it ‘5 Seconds of Summer’ because it really represents who we are and who we want to be as a band. Working on the different songs – writing, recording and watching them all come together – has been one of the most incredible experiences we’ve had as musicians and we are so proud of how it has turned out.” – Luke Hemmings

The band have caused widespread hysteria during their run of headline shows in Australia over the last fortnight; in Sydney last week, fans camped outside the venue for more than 48 hours to get a glimpse of the band.

Their brand new single, ‘Don’t Stop’, released late last week hit #2 on the Australian iTunes chart and the‘Don’t Stop’ EP is set for release on June 13th with pre-orders shooting straight to #1 on iTunes and Top 10 in 22 countries. With all the ingredients of a pop-rock smash, ‘Don’t Stop’ is an addictive, guitar driven track and was a clear crowd favourite with their fans at the band’s sold out shows last week. The official video for ‘Don’t Stop’ will be released on May 19 and features the band dressed as their favorite super heroes. In the meantime check out the lyric video to ‘Don’t Stop’ here.

2014 has been nothing short of phenomenal so far for 5 Seconds of Summer. Their ‘She Looks So Perfect’ EP release went to #1 in Australia, UK, Ireland, Canada, Mexico and New Zealand and #2 in the US Billboard album chart in April landing them the third biggest first week album sales of 2014. The ‘She Looks So Perfect’ EP is the highest selling debut artist album by any Australian act in the Soundscan era since 1992 and also the highest selling first week album sales by any Australian artist since AC/DC ‘Black Ice’, which charted in October 2008.

The band went to #1 on the Official Singles Chart in the UK with their debut release, ‘She Looks So Perfect’, making them only the fourth Australian group to top the UK’s Official Singles Chart, and first to do so since Madison Avenue‘s ‘Don’t Call Me Baby’ in May, 2000. The video for the single has now had over 24 million views on YouTube.

A true social phenomenon; In a little under eighteen months they have spent 2013 touring the globe amassing a phenomenal combined 11.3 million+ Twitter Followers, 2.9 million Facebook Likes and over 63 million YouTube views.

5SOS, as they are affectionately known by their ever burgeoning fan base, have also recently just completed a whirlwind promotional tour of Europe bringing traffic to a standstill in five countries over five days including Sweden, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. Check out the footage of the European mayhem here.

The band will be touring the UK in June to support One Direction on their ‘Where We Are’ world tour including 3 dates at iconic Wembley Stadium. 5SOS are also supporting 1D on their European and North American dates – prepare for nothing short of a complete global 5SOS takeover.
