Adelaide’s iconic Rundle Mall is enhancing its shopper experience with the introduction of Rundle Mall City Sessions, a dynamic live music program featuring local South Australian artists. This initiative, which began on Friday 15 November and will continue until Christmas, aims to enrich the mall’s atmosphere during key shopping periods and events, making it a hub of cultural activity.

The program kicked off with The Fast Lane on 15th and 16th of November, aligning with Good Music Month and providing a rock-inspired ambience for shoppers and visitors heading to the VAILO Adelaide 500. Planned to run across various weekends leading up to Christmas, the event schedule includes Black Friday Beats from November 30th to December 1st, Keys to the City from December 14th to 16th, and Sounds of the Season from December 20th to 22nd. Each performer promises to deliver a unique shopping experience combining retail with entertainment.

Andrew White, Executive Manager of the Adelaide Economic Development Agency’s Rundle Mall, shared “Rundle Mall is the heart of the city and a destination in its own right, playing an important role in celebrating Adelaide’s culture through exciting and diverse experiences including live music.” White went on to describe how the curated music program augments the traditional mall environment, offering shoppers not only goods but also memorable experiences.

According to White, the initiative also leverages the city’s reputation during major events and festivals. “The extended program of curated music performances will complement key Rundle Mall campaigns, like Black Friday and Christmas shopping, and reflect and leverage other major events and festivals being held across the city,” he explained.

The inclusion of over 50 local artists in the City Sessions program underscores a commitment to supporting both emerging and seasoned musicians. This initiative not only enriches the shopping experience but also provides artists with a valuable platform to showcase their talents and be paid for their performances as part of the program.

Joe Hay, General Manager of Adelaide City of Music Ltd remarked, “Adelaide is Australia’s first and only UNESCO City of Music, and we’re proud of the contribution that the new Rundle Mall City Sessions will add to our city’s thriving music culture.”

Looking ahead, curated live music is set to return to Rundle Mall in 2025 coinciding with major events like WOMADelaide, AFL Gather Round, and the winter season, promising ongoing entertainment and cultural engagement for visitors and locals alike.
