This year, Adelaide is celebrating 60 years since The Beatles’ historic visit on June 12th 1964, where over 300,000 people lined the streets to greet them.

This year, Adelaide is celebrating 60 years since The Beatles’ historic visit on June 12th 1964, where over 300,000 people lined the streets to greet the world’s number one pop music group. On that day, the Beatles were welcomed by the largest crowd of their career, waving to their adoring fans from the Adelaide Town Hall balcony.

To commemorate the milestone, across June, The Adelaide Town Hall is set to host a series of events, featuring musical tributes, themed exhibitions, community activities, and special screenings. There is something for every Beatles fan.

Candlelight Concert: Tribute to The Beatles on Strings | JUNE 6

The Adelaide Town Hall is hosting a Candlelight Concert of a Tribute to The Beatles on Strings on Thursday June 6th that is sure to be an evening of music and magic. Presented by The Collective String Quartet, immerse yourself in the timeless tunes of The Beatles, performed within the stunning walls of the Meeting Hall and completely illuminated by candlelight. Authors Greg Armstrong and Andy Neill will introduce their latest book When We Was Fab: Inside The Beatles Australasian Tour 1964 on Wednesday, June 12th at the Adelaide Town Hall’s Auditorium. The book offers an exclusive look into the 1960s Beatlemania, featuring unseen images, memorabilia, and press clippings, while also exploring the 1960s youth culture of Australia and New Zealand. The special event will feature a Q&A session, encouraging guests to share memories and moments of the milestone event in Adelaide’s history.

The Adelaide Town Hall is excited to present Adelaide’s own sensational tribute band, The LadyBeatles, performing an hour of Beatles hits back where it all began 60 years ago. On Wednesday the 12th of June, The LadyBeatles are set to deliver a nostalgic journey filled with rock ’n’ roll, and the infectious fun that made Adelaide, and the world, fall in love with The Beatles.

Beatles Take Adelaide Exhibition | OVER JUNE

Step into the buzz of Beatlemania in 1964 at the Northern Gallery in Adelaide Town Hall throughout June, with an exhibition curated by Megan Rainey (City Curator) in partnership with the City Archives and State Library of South Australia. Explore memorabilia, newspaper clippings, and captivating photography, including shots of the historic crowds by photographer Vic Grimmett.
