8 aircraft, 40 CFS fight SA bushfire in South-East

CFS are currently working to contain a scrub and grass fire on Rowney Road between Keilira and Marcollat in the Lower South-East.

In the Lower South-East, a significant scrub and grass fire rages on Rowney Road, stretching between the communities of Keilira and Marcollat. The Country Fire Service (CFS) is at the forefront, spearheading efforts against the fire.

40 CFS volunteers, eight trucks, and support by two bulk water carriers, are working to contain the blaze.

The firefighting efforts are being assisted by an aerial assault, comprising six fire bombers and two observation aircraft. These airborne units are pivotal in providing a comprehensive response to the fire, offering crucial support to the ground crews by laying down precise water and retardant drops to halt the fire’s advance.

Local landowners have joined the efforts, contributing their Farm Fire Units to bolster the firefighting efforts.

Adding to the arsenal of resources deployed to combat the fire, heavy machinery has been mobilized to create firebreaks and clear paths for emergency vehicles. Meanwhile, National Parks and Wildlife fire crews are en route, ready to lend their expertise and additional manpower to the CFS operations, ensuring a well-coordinated and effective response.

The gravity of the situation has necessitated the closure of key roads, including Rowney Road and Minnie Crow Road in Keilira, and Woolumbool Road at Marcollat, by SA Police. These closures are expected to remain for an extended period.
