The Wineslinger 2023 Top 50 list, showcasing Australia’s most remarkable wine destinations, has been unveiled. Voted on by a panel of over 100 esteemed sommeliers, winemakers, hospitality influencers, and journalists, the Wineslinger Awards serve as the ultimate guide to the country’s finest wine haunts.
This year’s Top 50, which actually comprises 55 exceptional venues due to the difficulty in splitting the votes, includes an array of outstanding wine destinations. Among them, you’ll find nine from South Australia.
“In the sixth year of these annual awards,” said Rory Kent, the founder of Wineslinger, “It’s such a thrill to once again discover so many great new wine haunts around the country.”
While the Top 50 features an array of exceptional venues, there are four major award winners that have shone particularly bright in 2023:
- Wineslinger Award: This prestigious accolade goes to Marion in Fitzroy, Victoria.
- Best New Haunt: Claimed by Commis in Collingwood, Victoria.
- Maverick Award: Proudly presented to Silver Sands Beach Club in Aldinga, South Australia.
- People’s Choice: As voted by the people, this honor goes to The Corner Dairy in Doubleview, Western Australia.
Notably, Silver Sands Beach Club in our own state stands out by receiving the coveted Maverick Award, a recognition for venues that push boundaries, challenge industry norms, and make a unique impact.
Situated on the shores of the McLaren Vale wine region, Silver Sands Beach Club operates within a surf club, offering an eclectic menu that juxtaposes chicken nuggets with thousand-dollar bottles of wine.
This establishment, created by wine writer Nick Stock and Mark Kamleh, embodies the spirit of the Maverick award, celebrating the fusion of diverse elements that redefine the wine experience.
With its wine expertise overseen by sommelier Lachlan George, combined with music curated by Mark and delectable cuisine crafted by head chef Stefano Longhi, Silver Sands Beach Club exemplifies the essence of innovation and excellence in the world of wine, setting a new standard for wine enthusiasts visiting the Fleurieu Peninsula beach community and beyond.
Eight other South Australian venues made this prestigious list, showcasing the state’s exceptional wine and venue offerings. Of those, four are located in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD.
