Alarming SAPOL figures have revealed private security guards at COVID-19 medi-hotels have breached protocol 99 times, including 23 instances of falling asleep on the job.
Since the establishment of hotel quarantine system until 27 November, according to SAPOL figures provided to Parliament, there have been:
- Five breaches by private security guards that resulted in instant dismissal including being drunk at work, disorderly behaviour, impersonating an ADF officer and falling asleep; and
- 94 breaches of protocol by private security guards resulting in them being stood down from duty, including 22 of sleeping on the job and 35 of breaching PPE protocols.
Shadow Minister for Health and Wellbeing Chris Picton says “We’ve seen the risks to our state through the Pepper Hotel outbreak and now we have already seen a UK mutant highly infectious strain here. Every precaution must be taken to ensure that our state stays safe.
“These are shocking breaches and highlight the risks when we are relying on subcontracted private security guards for our safety. There’s no doubt you aren’t ‘gold star’ when private security guards are falling asleep on the job.”
According to this morning’s media statement released by Shadow Minister Picton, Premier Steven Marshall has repeatedly referred to the state’s hotel quarantine program as “gold star rated”.
Picton went on to say “The Government is encouraged to ensure that there are not more delays to the new facility that will be the state’s first not staffed with private security guards.”
