9News Adelaide unveils dynamic new weekend anchor duo

9News Adelaide welcomes Alice Monfries as co-anchor alongside Will McDonald. Starting August 31, this dynamic duo will bring a fresh perspective to the weekend news, live from the Royal Adelaide Show.

9News Adelaide is set to introduce a new duo for its weekend news broadcasts, starting from the end of August. Award-winning journalist Alice Monfries will join current anchor Will McDonald as co-anchor, forming a fresh presenting team for the popular news programme.

Alice Monfries, known for her reporting on major events including the 2018 Thailand cave rescue, brings her considerable experience and a deep connection to the community to her new role. She will be joining Will McDonald, who has been leading the weekend edition since 2011. Both anchors are natives of South Australia, and are deeply engaged with, and passionate about, their state.

Jeremy Pudney, Director of 9News Adelaide, shared, “Nine’s commitment to local news is unwavering, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The addition of an experienced, high-quality journalist and person like Alice to our already strong weekend team shows just how seriously we take that commitment,” he stated.

Alice Monfries shared her excitement about her new role. “I’m thrilled to be joining Will and the weekend team to bring the news that matters most to South Australians. It is an honour to be part of a team delivering credible, trustworthy information, and to sit alongside Will, an experienced journalist, respected presenter, and also my good friend,” she said.

She also spoke about her personal connection with co-anchor Will McDonald, and their shared interests. “We share a love for news, the outdoors and the joys of raising our young families in this beautiful state, and share plenty of laughs and parenting tips. I’m looking forward to sitting together every weekend as we keep South Australians informed on everything they need to know,” Monfries added.

Will McDonald welcomed his new co-anchor, saying “I have many wonderful colleagues at 9News Adelaide, who have become good friends. Alice is a dedicated, compassionate journalist. On top of that, she is a terrific and supportive friend of mine, especially in recent years through my cancer diagnosis and the birth of my son,” he remarked.

“My dream of being a TV newsreader started when I was a boy. It’s a role I am forever grateful for. I think it is going to be great to have Alice alongside me to bring the news to South Australians,” McDonald said.

The new anchors are set to make their debut as a team on Saturday, August 31, with their first broadcast live from the Royal Adelaide Show.
