A Children’s Dance Class With A Special Purpose

Dance can be more than just that. It can be an artistic tool to teach children and nurture them. It can be the tool for social change. Maria Savant brings this to life with her ‘The Seed of Life’ programme…

Maria Savant is one of South Australia’s leading dance/drama specialists. She is an educational pioneer that is passionate and committed to developing high quality programmes that teach values to children through the arts. Dance for Peace connects image001children to their hearts. When they dance from a place of deep connection to life and they feel the peace within, they effect each other and the world in which they live. In this way, dance is used to teach children and also to fundraise to support other children in their community with special needs.

Maria’s Early Learning Programme, The Seed of Life has been operating in pre-schools and primary schools since 2008 and is currently being taught at St. Joseph’s Memorial Primary School in Kensington to the whole Reception year level.

The Seed of Life, is the first holistic Early Learning programme to link creative dance to healthy eating through the teaching of science. Children learn about the life cycle of the seed through a four-part dance, song and oral story process as they discover the power of the seed and its capacity for growing food that nourishes our body.

Maria says, “The difference with this programme is that it is a holistic, highly integrated  curriculum that supports the development of the whole child.’ There is no other programme quite like it in Australia. It is a South Australian innovation.”

As an artist, Maria Savant is dedicated to developing children who are connected to their heat values, the earth and their world community. Bookings for The Seed of Life in 2016 are now available at,  www.danceforpeace.com.au.
