This year’s Respecting Country Parade will see many multicultural and community groups unite under a rainbow of colour for Aus Lights on the River and Australia Day.
The travelling trail of bright festivities will begin at 6pm on January 26, as the parade makes its way from King William Street near Adelaide Oval to Elder Park, as part of the events and activities program.
Hundreds of people will participate dressed in traditional costume for the parade as it makes its return to the CBD since COVID and will be broadcast live onto screens for those at Elder Park.
In a first for the parade, it will begin with a Greeting to Spirit of Place led by Kaurna artist, Karl Telfer, who will bring all parade participants together to pay respect to country.
Some of the amazing multicultural communities participating include the Scottish Association of SA, The Thai Association, Columbian Community and don’t miss the dragons that will accompany the Chinese community.

Making their parade debut this year, will be the West Beach Surf Life Saving Club. The Club is committed to keeping our beaches safe and they run a a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) program to support our community and help newly arrived migrants learn about beach safety and teach them how to swim.
Additionally, they are hoping to also run a new program for First Nations people through a partnership with the Tjindu Foundation that aims to support Aboriginal families to access the nippers program.
These programs help to redress the fact that minority groups are disproportionately represented in data around drownings and water incidents and clubs’ initiatives aims to reduce the barriers to families to access their programs.

Aus Lights on the River is presented in partnership with the City of Adelaide, Vili’s Family Bakery, EPSON and PH8. The event is assisted by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council and supported by the Government of South Australia.
