A free lights festival with giant glowing animals, fire shows and a fairy garden is returning to Mawson Lakes

Drawing crowds of up to 15,000 last year, Lights at Mawson is back and brighter than ever, this July.

As the nights get darker throughout winter, there’ll be one event lighting up the Mawson Lakes across three vibrant nights of illumination, fire and fun.

Lights at Mawson is back and it’s bigger, better and brighter than ever from July 17 to 19.

After last year’s giant light-up panda became one of the event’s most eye-catching drawcards, this year’s program is leaning even further into the spectacle, with an illuminated inflatable animal trail around the lake, silent disco, live acoustic music, light painting portraits, mini golf, LED workshops and interactive light games.

Each night live music will flow across the lake from 6pm, and there will be plenty of food and drinks to grab from local cafes and restaurants along the way.

The lake flame and pyrotechnics show is one not to be missed with three shows each night, the lake will be lit up with a dramatic display of fire, light and energy.

The new light painting portraits sound like one of the more unique additions this year, giving visitors the chance to create glowing, long-exposure-style keepsakes from the night. Around the lake, visitors can follow an illuminated inflatable animal trail, with giant light-up creatures adding a playful, photo-worthy element to the winter night.

For those keen to wander into the unknown, they’re will also be a glowing light maze and fairy garden, perfect for the kids and families.

If you’re up for a little boogie, the silent disco is where you’ll want to be, shaking out to great tunes while others can’t hear a thing.

The program has a lot more on offer and getting there is pretty easy but with limited street parking nearby you may want to take the accessible public transport.

If a giant glowing panda was enough to stop Mawson Lakes in its tracks last year, this winter’s return of Lights at Mawson is set to go even better.
