A French favourite continues as Les Deux Coqs welcomes new owners

After years of early mornings and market days, Katia and Bastien have passed Les Deux Coqs into the hands of two long-time team members who know the business inside and out.

On many a morning in the Adelaide Central Market, a line still forms the way it always has, people chat about weekend plans, and a child points at yummy éclairs. The scene feels unchanged, which is the point. Les Deux Coqs has new owners, but the soul of this pâtisserie remains the same.

After many years of hard work building their business from scratch, owners Katia and Bastien have passed the baton to two long-time team members, Alexis and Audrey.

The pair have worked the early shifts, the market rush, and the Christmas chaos. They know the regulars by name. They know which tray sells out first.

For Katia, saying goodbye to daily life at Les Deux Coqs comes with gratitude, knowing Alexis and Audrey are taking over and are people she trusts deeply.

“We realised we’d created something special when even the small French community in Adelaide told us how much this was missing here,” she says.

“When customers said our pâtisserie reminded them of France, or that our saucisson and pâtés croûtes had become part of their weekend tradition, we knew Les Deux Coqs had truly become part of Adelaide life.

“It was also incredibly rewarding when major institutions asked us to cater their events, or when we met people speaking so highly of the brand without knowing we were the owners. Moments like these have made all the hard work worthwhile.”

The story began at local farmers markets, then grew because Adelaide willed it to.

“We started in 2017 at a few local markets, and because of the incredible response and growing demand, we had to expand. From the very beginning, people welcomed us with warmth, curiosity, and encouragement.”

When the sale of the pâtisserie was announced, messages poured in. Many promised to keep supporting Alexis and Audrey.

Alexis steps into ownership with calm energy. He talks about rhythm. Dough rising. The doorbell. The hum of a busy Saturday.

“It really does feel like carrying something forward rather than taking over,” he says.

“We’ve been part of Les Deux Coqs’ story for so long, we know the products, we know the customers, and as French people we love sharing our culture.

“We’re very excited about what’s coming next, but right now our focus is on Christmas and making sure it’s a beautiful, delicious season for everyone.”

Change will arrive in small, thoughtful ways.

“We’ll keep the original products that made the brand loved in Adelaide, and on top of that we’ll add a little je ne sais quoi so Les Deux Coqs keeps evolving without losing its soul,” Alexis says.

“We’re working on new lines to keep our loyal customers excited, and we’re also playing with some flavours Adelaide hasn’t seen from us yet to attract new foodies.”

The promise to regulars is simple Alexis says.

“We’ll keep the best-sellers you love, that’s important to us. Our goal is to carry on the Les Deux Coqs legacy: in one sense nothing will change, and at the same time everything will, because we want to keep improving quality, creating new experiences, and making the brand even more present in Adelaide.”

When asked about the future, he says, “We want to be more visible in the city and bring Les Deux Coqs to more people. We can’t reveal too much yet, but check out our social, we have some very exciting things planned for next year.”
