Rather than hibernating in your Oodie this winter, check out the incredible events and activities on offer in Adelaide this winter, where you can really Hit The Town!

The months may be getting colder, but the action’s getting hotter!

Sure, you could sit at home in your Ugg Boots in front of the fire, but why not ‘Hit The Town’ instead and experience everything there is to eat, see and do in the CBD and North Adelaide winter?

With a jam-packed calendar of events, festivals, activations, and installations on offer to suit every taste and budget, here’s some inspiration for how to spend winter in the city.

Tasting Australia winter series (1 – 31 July)

After the incredible success of their May festival, Tasting Australia is back for a much-anticipated winter edition for the month of July, showcasing the best of Adelaide and state’s produce. The range of bespoke and one-of-a-kind experiences include epic celebrations of pork at 2KW, a Japanese whisky dinner at Sean’s Kitchen, and an exclusive food and wine pairing at Crowne Plaza’s Koomo. Winterfest (21 August)

August’s answer to Mad March, the Queen’s Theatre will come to life in a festive night of winter themed activations for Winterfest. If you’re missing out on a holiday on the slopes this winter, at Winterfest patrons can enjoy a Winter Market Hall akin to European Christmas markets, an epic Ski Lodge Party featuring electric dance DJs, or a crackling fireplace and delicious food from the likes of Gang Gang Co, Staazi and Co and Leon & Rose Desserts.

Dinner’s On Us (July-August)

Were you one of the 5000 lucky South Australians to win a $30 Dinner’s On Us voucher? Then don’t forget to redeem it during winter. Umbrella Festival (16 July – 8 August)

Organised by not-for-profit organisation Music SA, Umbrella Festival is back for a fifth year, bringing an epic live music program of over 170 events to South Australia in a range of open-access venues. Adelaide Arcade Unplugged will be bringing Rundle Mall’s Adelaide Arcade to life with four sessions, free for spectators, headlined by indie pop-rock favourites Mum Friends and the Ukulele Death Squad.

Illuminate Adelaide’s City Lights (16 July – 1 August)

Adelaide’s newest winter experience brings an incredible spectacle of light to the city’s buildings, laneways, parks and public spaces. Enjoy ticketed events in the CBD and North Adelaide through a new, colourful lens but you can’t go past the FREE City Lights, which is a free light trail across the CBD. Put on your walking shoes, download the map, and head into the city to check it out yourself.

While boasting more than 700 retailers, there’s now even more reason to treat yourself to a shopping spree in Rundle Mall this winter. Van Gogh Alive (1 July – 22 August)

Having already delighted thousands of visitors since it opened at the beginning of July, the immersive, multi-sensory art exhibition has extended its dates. Van Gogh Alive will now call North Adelaide’s O’Connell Street home until the 22 August. Spectators can experience the latest audio-visual technology that transports them inside Van Gogh’s iconic masterpieces in a vibrant symphony of light, colour and sound. With Light Up O’Connell, you can keep your exhibition ticket and use it to redeem exclusive discounts at a range of O’Connell Street businesses during your visit.

Winter Weekends (until 2 October)

Add a little heat to your weekend evenings and head into the city for Winter Weekends. Happening this Saturday night (July 17) and every Friday and Saturday until October 2, Winter Weekends will bring fire pits, roving fire twirling performances, live music and outdoor dining to Adelaide’s streets. Set down next to a warm fire, indulge in delicious food and wine from local restaurants, and soak up the amazing winter vibes! Check it out at heaps of amazing CBD and North Adelaide spots including Bar Torino on Hutt Street, 23rd Street Distillery on Melbourne Street, and the West Oak Hotel on Hindley Street.
