A Guide To Wine-ing And Dining On The Marina Pier

The Marina Pier is always bustling with community activities and some of the finest seafood restaurants in the state, here’s your guide to wine-ing and dining in the precinct.

The midst of summer is the perfect time for waterfront dining and with scorcher weeks ahead of us, we’re all craving a blue view as we escape the heat.

The Marina Pier in Glenelg, often buzzing with the locals and trekkers alike, hosts a range of markets and events throughout the year. Year-round however, The restaurants on the Marina Pier form a precinct of gorgeous dining (alongside a healthy dose of wine-ing).

In no particular order are your next go-to foodie destinations with a glorious waterfront view.

Luciano’s Marina Pier

Marina Pier’s newest destination, Luciano’s is a Tuscan paradise, full of marble and pink textures. Taking heavy inspiration from its surroundings and Italian background, the menu heavily features seafood. Courtesy of their huge oven, the pizza menu is similiarly vast, with the pizza reaching 400+ degrees, (less than in two minutes cooking time). Looks like the place to be trying.

Sammy’s on the Marina

With a 270° view of the water, Sammy’s on the Marina has some of the best seats in the house for Glenelg’s majestic sunsets. A venue perfectly fit for functions and the lot, the interior is as gorgeous and pristine as the view. The cherry on top is their extensive menu; oysters, prawns, Moreton bay bugs, salmon, and more, all locally sourced.

Marina Sunset Bar

Sunset Bar’s sand level deck is the proper way to eat waterside. Plus all the classics on offer, pizzas, tapas and more. Their drinks menu expands past just a wine menu to heaps of cocktail and fishbowls (plus a wide range of gins and top shelf liquor).

It’s worth staying tuned to their what’s on page, to see their happy hours, Fishbowl Fridays, half price pizza day and free pool day – yes, please!

Seafire on the Marina

Seafire on the Marina deliver a salivation inducing selection of grass fed steak specialties. Their menu selection also include fresh Coffin Bay oysters and a range of other seafood faves, as you’d expect from a Marina Pier restaurant. Seafire are equally well-known for their drinks menu; cocktails galore and a carefully curated wine list.

Ellenika Taverna

Greek food was designed to be eaten by the sea — which is the exact experience you can expect at Ellenika Taverna. The menu predominantly features Meze type dishes, meaning they’re perfect for sharing. You’ll find all the usual Greek suspects (like pitas and dip, moussaka and pastitsio, and seafood or meat platters), as well as breakfast dishes for your brunch needs!

Oyster Bar

The Oyster Bar is known for providing some of the best oysters in South Australia. These fresh beauties can be enjoyed indoors or alfresco, with 9 different flavours including the classic natural or Kilpatrick oyster to Thai, chilli and cheese, or Panko. Seafood, tacos, halloumi fries and smoked salmon bowls round off the popular menu.

The Oyster Bar also create gorgeous oyster packs, with oyster specials on Wednesday’s and an Oyster of the Month. Oh, and their oyster shots are definitely something to try.

The Wharf

The Wharf is cosy and intimate, ideal for a first date. The menu is chock full of seafood delight, such as scallops, whiting and mussels and grill options ranging from crisp pork belly to black Angus eye fillet.

The cocktails are themed appropriately including the Bright n’ Windy, a hit of gin, to the Dark n’ Stormy with a hum of spiced rum, and the Mermaid Lemonade and the Cabin Cooler, if that sounds like a Summertime dream to you, that’s because it is.

Tomiko Japanese Steak House

Tomiko Japanese Steak House brings locals the authentic taste of Japanese teppanyaki and steak to Adelaide. Catering for every possibility, Tomiko also provide a two-person degustation and a set menu that can go between eight to twelve courses! You can expect an absolute feast here. To accompany the delicious food, the wine list is similarly incredible, providing the best of Japanese sake, flavoured liquors and spirits.

Veloce Paninoteca Espresso Bar

Coffee by the sea? We don’t mind if we do. Veloce is pouring 100% Arabica beans roasted to perfection, with a range of sweet and savoury food items suitable for brekkie, lunch, and even just a mid-morning or afternoon snack. A great little spot for a break after wandering up and down the Marina Pier!

Asian Flavour House

Amongst the seafood and Mediterranian flavours in Glenelg, you’ll find Asian Flavour House bringing you exactly what the name suggests. They’re offering up a fusion of Asia’s most celebrated cuisines all in one place. Dig into classics like Black Bean Beef and Pad Thai, or choose from dishes like Peking Duck Wraps and Laksa — you’ll be spoiled for choice!

Head over to Marina Pier 6/12 Holdfast Shores, Glenelg to get a taste of Asia.

Zucca Greek Mezze

Imagine neutral tones, a breezy interior, and views of the ocean rolling in — and what you’re thinking of is Zucca Greek Mezze. Chefs Peter, Dave, and Adam have designed a Greek culinary experience featuring dishes ranging from stuffed cabbage leaves through to braised baby goat. Using the best of local produce the menu has been kept simple and has been cooked in the same fashion as homes all over Greece.

Need another excuse to head to the Marina Pier? The next Marina Pier Market is slated for 5 January, 2020 from 10am ’til 2pm, and the theme is family and lifestyle.

The market’s stalls will be selling goods for babies, children and families. In addition to the market, there’ll be FREE messy play and slime workshops, a visit from Dolly the Dolphin, a puppet show, face painting and a slushy station.
