As the creator of Historical Adelaide Tours, he takes visitors on a journey through time, sharing chilling tales of crime within the square mile of Adelaide. Bob’s interest in Adelaide’s darker history started after attending History Month events, where he volunteered at the Adelaide Gaol and developed a deep knowledge of the characters who passed through its gates. The more he learned, the more Bob became captivated by the stories of murder and suicide that dotted the city’s history.
Bob’s tours are not just about grisly tales; they explore the broader historical context, looking into the societal expectations, needs, and values that defined different periods of time, from the early 1900s to the early 2000s. How did society view crime and punishment? How have our views changed? These are some of the questions Bob unravels as he walks you through the city’s streets.
During his tours, Bob will share stories of murders, suicides, and tragic deaths that have occurred since South Australia was proclaimed in 1836. His research is based on historic coronial records and files, many of which are available for public access at State Records.
