Adelaide’s east end is about to transform into a world of espionage, intrigue and suspicious characters, with a 1960s James Bond-inspired murder mystery experience taking over The Laneway Social this July.
Hosted by one of the best and longest-established murder mystery dinner theatre companies, Cluedunnit, The Spy Who Went Out In The Cold is an evening packed with covert clues, secret agendas and unexpected twists, inviting guests to become part of the mystery themselves.
The immersive event will take over The Laneway Social on Friday, July 31st, seeing participants thrown directly into the action as they interrogate suspects, uncover hidden motives and work together to solve the crime before the night is over.
Guests are encouraged to embrace the theme with full 1960s-inspired glamour, with organisers calling on attendees to Go “60’s” Go “Bond” for the occasion. So dust off your sharpest tuxedos, vintage cocktail dresses, dramatic eyeliner and spy-movie sophistication for a night of style.
The evening begins at 6:30pm with a complimentary drink on arrival before the investigation officially kicks off at 7pm. Running for approximately 90 to 120 minutes, the event is designed to feel less like traditional theatre and more like stepping into your own retro spy film.
The murder mystery is the latest event to land at The Laneway Social, the Ebenezer Place venue that rose from the former Belgian Beer Cafe site with a complete redesign and refreshed hospitality offering.
Gone are the venue’s darker interiors, replaced with bright tiling, greenery-filled spaces and a more relaxed social atmosphere designed for everything from after-work drinks to long lunches and late-night cocktails.
There’s a strong focus on local produce, South Australian suppliers and elevated pub-style dining, and the drinks menu has also become a major drawcard. Featuring creative cocktails including marshmallow funfetti sours, limoncello spritzes and fortune cookie old fashioneds, these are the kind of playful concoctions that feel perfectly suited to a spy-themed evening of mystery and mayhem.
For the event itself, The Laneway Social’s private function room will feature a dedicated bar operating throughout the night, with organisers recommending that guests arrive early to enjoy their welcome drink and order food before the investigation begins.
Participation is a major part of the experience, meaning guests should prepare to mingle, defend their innocence and potentially accuse their friends along the way.
