A Little Market With A Big Idea Is Coming…

It will have all the usual suspects you expect to find at a market… A great array of stalls with everything from handmade cards and plants, to tasty food stalls, but there is something special about this market…

A one off local community event is coming to Kensington and all in the name of charity… The ‘Little Black Market’ will be held on Sunday 1 May from 9am – 1pm in the car park of 270 The Parade, Kensington.

The local market is being held to raise money for The Jodi Lee Foundation, which has a vision of eliminating bowel cancer in Australia.

Little Black Market organiser Michaela Webster said, “I am taking part in the JLF Trek which is an 80 kilometre two day trek on the Heysen Trail later in May. Rather than ask people to donate, my family and friends wanted to create an experience and space that would allow local teens and anyone in the local community to try their ideas at a low cost. You never know, it might start something for them!”

“The Jodi Lee Foundation is close to my heart as my dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year and it was such a relief to know they understood and I was able to get the support and information I needed,” said Ms Webster.

Ms Webster hopes that the market will have local stalls created by the community, friends and family, “it is such a good feeling that people are contacting us to support it. We still have a couple of spots available for anyone that wants to sell jams and chutney, hand-made cards, books, garden – herbs and plants and baby wear.”

On the list of confirmed stall holders are Soal Sister, Izamo offering classic and stylish fashion, The Five Collection for accessories, The Native Garden selling beautiful flowers, Many Herbert bringing their aromatic candles and Bec O’Connor for all your body products. Mary Stapleton will also be playing tunes on the day.

“I hope people pop the dates in the diaries and come visit the market on Sunday 1 May where there will be everything from fresh OJ, a home made lemonade stand, speciality bread, coffee, breakfast and spend a morning together doing something for an amazing local organisation,” said Ms Webster.
