A Magical Something on Saturday 2010 season

something on saturdayAdelaide Festival Centre and National Pharmacies proudly announce the much anticipated 2010 Something on Saturday season, now in its 33nd year and running from 8 May to 4 September.

The program continues to delight and entertain more than 15,000 people every year, with many South Australian children aged 3 to 10 enjoying their first theatrical experience through the program. This year the program is bigger than ever with an additional two shows being presented – testament to its growing demand and popularity which is now a record 18 weeks.

Once tickets go on sale on 17 April, performances are expected to sell out, so patrons are encouraged to book quickly to avoid disappointment.

The 2010 program’s diversity covers everything from storytelling, magic, ballet, acrobatics, circus skills, puppetry and even hip hop. Some old favourites return to perform again, and the program gets educational covering topics as varied as rock’n’roll, maths, science and even classical music.

The season will kick off with a tribute to vaudeville as The Doogans (Pandora Pink and Mr Spin) provide mad-cap antics and phenomenal circus skills for the whole family on 8 May for two shows in the Piano Bar at 11am and 1pm.

Further highlights from this year’s program include:

  • The South Australian Children’s Ballet with a production of Coppélia.
  • Superheroes of Kid-Hop, award-winning act Casio Brothers & Demilition B-Girl (aka Demi, So You Think You Can Dance Top 4, 2008) This show is also part of the 2010 Adelaide Cabaret Festival – Kids Cabaret.
  • Local favourites the Australian Classical Youth Ballet with their rendition of the ‘ever most charming’ fairytale story of Cinderella, with original music score and narrated by Brenton Whittle and Bookworm.

  • Outstanding circus skills, music, theatre and dance from the United Kingdom’s The Chipolatas also part of the Something on Saturday Kids Cabaret.
  • Mathematical superhero Simon Pampena, an unparalleled comedian who inspires children across Australia to see that Maths is not boring!
  • Nursery rhymes becoming orchestral masterpieces when Adelaide Youth Sinfonia, Young Adelaide Voices and Bronwen James present Babies Proms an introduction to the world of classical music.

The Foundation Kids Corner popular craft workshops remain a mainstay thanks to the Adelaide Festival Centre Foundation who is committed to inspiring and stimulating young people with a great selection of fun activities each week, and best of all they’re FREE.

National Pharmacies is once again on board in its eleventh year as the principal sponsor of Something on Saturday.

Tickets are just $8.50 per person when purchasing tickets to four or more Something on Saturday performances (plus a $6.60 handling fee per booking, not per ticket), and single tickets are $10.50 per person (inclusive of handling fee).
