A Music Festival, A Famous DJ, Juice And That Photo!

Major Lazer loves Adelaide and one juicery in particular…

Did you see it?

The Instagram post from global superstar Diplo (one half of duo Major Lazer and Katy Perry’s ex boyf) holding personalised cold pressed juice from Adelaide’s own Raw and Real Juicery?

Well, if you’re out of the loop… here it is for your viewing pleasure:

U know the deal … RAW AND REAL @MAJORLAZER

When owner of Raw and Real Juicery, Niki Karamalis, had a missed call from the backstage team leading up to Stereosonic weekend, she didn’t think too much of it.

When one missed call quickly turned in several and a voicemail saying “You have to call me back straight away!” she was confused but intrigued.

Niki rang back to the question “Do you make cold pressed juices, and do you serve them in glass bottles?” “Of course! That’s the only way to serve them!” she told Glam. These were the requests of international music legends Major Lazer upon their visit to Adelaide for Stereosonic earlier this month.

“I’ll admit I didn’t know who Major Lazer were at first. They said to me “Niki, are you living under a rock!?” [giggles] “Hello! I’m a new mum. Isn’t that the same the thing?”

Niki told us that the boys must know the importance of cold pressing juice, and obviously drinking it from glass. Cold pressing juice preserves the maximum amount of vitamins, enzymes, minerals and trace minerals possible from the chosen fruit and veg. Then serving it in glass instead of plastic means that no harmful chemicals (like those found in plastic bottles) leach into your fresh and healthy beverage!

After sending through their best flavour selection for the boys to choose from, the Raw and Real team sat and patiently awaited their order.

“We worked together and added the little personalisation without telling them [Major Lazer], it’s just a nice touch.” Since then, Raw and Real have had plenty of requests from major SA businesses to personalise juices for their staff, clients and even health conscious office parties.

Seems like a pretty specific request from a star right? Well we’ve heard it’s not the craziest! So what else do the international superstars of the dance music world request in their riders? Apparently, contrary to popular belief, behind the scenes at these outrageous festivals the acts are all about healthy GMO free produce. Who woulda thunk it? We’re talking vegan hommus, steamed fish, kale chips and of course, cold pressed juice.

Empire of the Sun requested fresh flowers for their room. And one huge DJ (think one of the highest paid in the world) asked for vintage Playboys from the 1970s for some casual afternoon reading. And Steve Aioki? Needed $1000 worth of cream cake.

Glam have been told though, that aside from the hilarious (and often difficult to fulfill) requests, most of these stars are actually really down to earth. Armin Van Buuren is rumoured to be worth over $55million, you’d think that equals high snobriety and arrogance, but in person? He’s apparently a super friendly and relaxed guy!

So you might not make $55mil next year, but if you’d like to live like the stars, you can get one step closer with a Raw and Real juice. There’s no need to order, just pop in store, although we can’t guarantee it’ll come with your name on! It’s the perfect healthy summer stop, especially if you’re getting tired of Christmas shopping in Rundle Mall. They even have amazing salads, sandwiches and snacks to fill you up too.

Team Glam whipped in there straight after our chat with Niki and grabbed the Mango, Coriander, Pineapple and Watermelon fruit blend. It had us feelin’ fresh in no time.
