Carla Conlin, with tongue firmly in cheek, explores the minefield that is dating and relationships. In an hour of comic song she looks at the darker side of love, from meeting to separating. She opens the performance with Whatever Lola Wants, entering the room wearing a stunningly slinky dress, her long hair cascading over her shoulders, a cheeky twinkle in her eye and singing seductively, leaving no doubt that Lola does, indeed, get whatever she wants.

During the show she introduces us to a range of people, from a girl whose first date is about as unromantic as one can get, rock climbing, to the woman who has been dumped and is planning revenge and all points in between. It is not all bad, though. There is the compatible couple, with a similar romantic interest, explored in Tom Lehrer’s Masochism Tango. Even Britney Spears gets an airing with Toxic.

Conlin is in musically good company, with backing by Musical Director Samuel Leske on guitar, Stephen Morel on keyboard, Alana Dawes on bass and Holly Thomas on drums. This show is a lot of fun, combining humour with Conlin’s fine vocals in a nicely intimate setting. Get a ticket if you can.
