Calling all plant lovers! Do you have a unit or apartment that has limited garden space? Don’t let that prevent you from exercising your green thumb and incorporating green spaces into your home.
These days, with smaller blocks of land and more subdivided properties, we need to think more creatively about how to bring all things green into your home.
We all know how crucial it is for wellbeing to have a connection to nature. No matter how small your living space is, having access to nature’s green spaces and living things should be accessible to all!
Luckily, the Adelaide Botanic Gardens has some tips and tricks to create gorgeous rooftop gardens and green walls!
In a one-day workshop, participants will be able to learn various methods to combat the challenges of growing rooftop gardens and green walls in SA’s high evaporation rates and low humidity.
The workshop will be presented by award-winning plants-woman, Pam Gurner-Hall, who has had a long horticulture career and landscape architecture. Pam has also been the proprietor of a number of horticultural businesses, including Fireworks Nursery, Plant Pedlar, Hahndorf Country Garden, and Pam Gurner-Hall Garden Consultation and Design.
You will look at the best systems to support your plants grow and limit water usage, as well as how to incorporate local flora and fauna into your design – especially threatened species!
You will also learn how to assess, build, and adapt your garden spaces to suit the size of your space, taking into consideration:
- Structural requirements for rooftops and green walls,
- How plants can influence your home energy footprint, and
- Weight, water, drainage, and access.
Not only is this workshop super helpful for the home, but lessons learned are also suitable for commercial and public spaces. This will undoubtedly be a great opportunity for plant lovers to explore new ideas and plan how to make the best of what you’ve got!
