A fresh burst of colour has arrived in Cummins, with the Cummins Mosaic Group officially unveiling a striking new mosaic feature at the Cummins Institute, giving the space a vibrant new feel. The sculpted seating area wrapping around the front of the hall creates a welcoming and colourful new gathering point for the community.

Snaking around seats and structures at the Cummins Institute, the artwork doubles as seating, encouraging the community to not only enjoy but to take a seat to relax and admire the mosaic, installed in early December.

The designs themselves celebrate local flora and fauna, with each panel telling its own unique story through bold colours and great detail. From native plants to well-known wildlife, the feature highlights the natural beauty of the region, showcasing the talent of the local mosaic group.

The group celebrated the opening earlier in December, bringing together the dozens of members who put the design and mosaic together over hours of work. In a facebook post the group thanked the community for the support of the artwork.

“We also thank the Eyre Peninsula Community Foundation for the donation of $1324 towards the completion of the project,” they said.

The finished visuals include beautiful pink galahs, blue banded bees, magpies in flight, ants, a goanna and many native plants. The installation process began in August, with the first concrete poured before months of careful tile placement, grouting and finishing work followed.

“Our group is really pleased with the vibrant mosaic panels on the seating and gathering space in front of the hall and hopes it will become an interesting feature in our town for locals and visitors alike,” the group shared.

The Cummins Mosaic Group has completed several other mosaic projects across the region, including at the community garden, continuing to bring colour and creativity into public spaces. Whether you fall in love with the green and red nature panels, or the pops of yellow in the bird panels; the space is not only to be seen, but used by all.
