A Taste of India on Walkerville Terrace…

Interior design queen Sarah Shanahan previews a touch of the exotic subcontinent available here in Adelaide in her regular column.

While you may think Walkerville Terrace’s new bright and vibrant homewares store ‘Gitanjali’ is relatively new to the Adelaide homewares scene, opening its doors in late 2015, don’t be fooled! Owner Helen has been importing and retailing mostly textile products from India for more than 20 years in a previous business.

With intimate contacts in India gained over those last 20 years, Helen decided to start a fresh new business concentrating on both textiles and homewares in her gorgeous Walkerville store. The store certainly is a visual feast for the eyes, and more importantly something different from the mass produced products seen elsewhere. If you are into colour, texture and something unique and handmade straight from the artisans, then Gitanjali is your place!

While concentrating on predominantly on wares from India, you can also find unique pieces from Bali, Thailand, Mexico and Vietnam. Local artists are also featured heavily throughout the store by way of the stunning artwork from Adelaide girl, Eliza Piro which is a perfect addition and blends seamlessly in store.

If you haven’t yet been, Gitanjali is a must visit, trust me, you are in for a treat! The store is located at 99 Walkerville Tce. You can have a look across their wares at their website, or admire their range on Instagram.
