Sam, who recently was selected as part of the Museum of Contemporary Art Primavera 2021: Young Australian Artists of the Year, says the workshops are for everyone no matter their skill level and are all about having a good time and learning new skills.

“We’ll guide participants teaching a blend of traditional and contemporary ceramic methods of carving, slab and coiling building techniques, and painting with porcelain slip in a fun and relaxed atmosphere,” Sam says.

“Everyone’s creations will come back with us so we can glaze and fire their works, so they are ready for collection just in time for Christmas, making the perfect gift for a loved one.”

The Queens’ will come to life with a selection of handpicked stall holders featuring local designers, artists and makers who will showcase their talents and goods, including well know muralist Jack Fran who will be painting live, and 2021 Carclew Fellowship recipient and ceramicist, Sam Matthewman who will be throwing on the wheel in the flesh.

The stall line-up includes favourites such as: Chaya Boutique, Sienna Rose, This Wee Piggy, Days of August, and retail artist wares and bookstore Twenty Seven, who will be selling a range of handmade and even one-off artist wares, curated books, ceramics, and wearables.

Co-owner of Twenty Seven, Chira Grasby, said she is excited to share their stock with a wider section of the community, promoting the act of buying local for Christmas.

The full music line-up includes Alana Jagt, Kelly Menhennett, Dojo Rise, My Chérie, Rob Edwards, Lucas Day, Malibu Drive, The Boys Club, Brian Ruiz (The B.R.O.), Souzi D. Wilson and the Cool Mints, and Philippa Lynas. They will sound track the festivities.

Joining the above musicians is iconic local graffiti and street writer Scott Coleman (KAB101) who will transform Playhouse Lane into a visual masterpiece with his signature style.

The Queens Theatre’s Torben Brookman said the Queens Xmas Festival will be the ultimate way to get into the spirit of the festive season.

“The holiday season is all about spending quality time with friends and loved ones,” Torben says.

“Each day will offer something new and exciting so make a weekend of it to enjoy the full scope of art, craft and talent on offer.”
