Adelaide’s north just scored a weekly late-night food market with Salisbury After Dark (soon to be called Halal Street Eats). Happening every Friday and Saturday from 6pm, the market hosts a selection of viral food trucks with pumping music, fire pits, fairy lights, and the ideal vibe to welcome the weekend. Plus, it’s family-friendly and all halal.
Hosted by Ahmed, the high school student turned multi-business owner behind Teddy’s Dessert, the market is held out the back of his dessert shop and his dad’s neighbouring business, Mona Kebab House. The market is part of his bigger goal, to create a community hub.
“My dad has had his business here for over ten years. I’ve always had a vision to create a nice hangout spot where everyone can come down,” Ahmed says.
Expect the popular nachos in a bag (where you bring your own bag and they fill it) and popcorn chicken cheesy potatoes from Merk’s Grill, smashburgers from Big Boy Burgers, and handcrafted sweets from Imbers Desserts, alongside Teddy’s Desserts’ signature crepes, churros and acai.

This is just the beginning for the bustling neighbourhood spot, which only started three weeks ago.
“Every week, we want to get bigger and bigger. Across the online marketing, we have around half a million views already,” Ahmed says.
“Everyone thought it wasn’t going to work out in Adelaide, but we took the risk and it just popped off.”
And last week, the Teddy’s Dessert truck alone made over a thousand sales. “It was fully packed,” he adds.
Don’t let the name throw you, Salisbury After Dark welcomes people of all ages, and has already attracted a diverse crowd.
“We used to have just young people coming, but now we have young, old, and a lot families coming down, which is really good to see,” Ahmed says.
Running until around midnight, Salisbury After Dark is a great balance between buzzing and laid-back. Music is “not too loud,” but for party animals, there are plans for monthly party nights that involve drummers and live music.
With every vendor halal certified and the community turning up week after week, Salisbury After Dark is quickly becoming a hotspot for northern dwellers. And with a teenage multi-business owner behind the wheel, we can expect it’ll only continue to flourish.
“We want to get more vendors in — perfume stalls, clothes stalls, the whole lot,” Ahmad says.
