A World-Changing Environmental and Social Impact Film Festival Returns to Adelaide this May

The Transitions Film Festival returns to Adelaide this May, for its fifth year, with an enthralling selection of cutting-edge documentaries about the existential challenges, mega-trends, game-changing technologies and creative visions that are redefining what it means to be human.

The Festival focuses on sharing positive stories about the solutions to society’s greatest challenges and showcasing the local heroes and changemakers who are building a better world.

Opening the festival is A New Economy, a ground-breaking film that looks at the power of new business and economic models to create positive and systemic change.

A Plastic Ocean, which as described by David Attenborough as ‘one of the most important environmental films of the decade’, offers solutions to the heart-wrenching problem of ubiquitous plastic pollution, Age of Consequences looks at climate change through a military lens, and ethical fashion film RiverBlue, which is narrated by Jason Priesly (Beverly Hills 90210), looks at the impacts of fashion on the world’s most beautiful rivers.

How to Let Go of The World and Love All the Things Climate Can’t Change, follows Oscar-nominated director Josh Fox (Gasland) on his round-the-world journey to find the most heroic warriors fighting on the front lines against climate change, Seed: The Untold Storythrows the spotlight on passionate seed keeps as they wage a David and Goliath battle against chemical seed companies in an attempt to defend a 12,000 year food legacy, and Tomorrow features French actress and director Melanie Lauret and activist Cyril Dion as they travel the world in search of solutions to our planets most pressing environmental challenges.

Two Australian films will be on display, including RAW, a beautifully uplifting story about two 60 year old Australians who attracted international media attention when they ran 366 consecutive marathons in under a year as a way to promote the benefits of plant-based diets, andThe Bentley Effect, an empowering portrait of the Northern Rivers’ successful resistance to fracking in NSW.

The Transitions Film Festival features a stellar line-up of eye-opening documentaries and inspirational guest speakers including Alan Murray and Janette Murray-Walking, the two marathon-running subjects of the film RAW, who will be in attendance to present their film. .

The Festival launched in Melbourne on February 16 before touring to Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide.

Adelaide screenings take place from the 19th – 28th of May.
